This topic was posted on LS1tech and it drew some interesting responses. I'll throw my .02 on the subject first. I am completely opposed to it. Not for the reasons you might think , instead , because of the way Toyota has handled Craftsman Truck. Basically , they offered super cheap sponsorship packages to sponsors , thus hurting the smaller teams . I feel like they will do the same for Nextel. I could care less which manufacturer joins the series but it's not right that they resort to underhanded tactics such as this. I don't follow their logic , either. Your average Camry owner probably isn't interested in NASCAR to begin with , so I don't see this a s a sales tool. The cars are so far from stock now that the philosophy of "Win on Sunday , Sell on Monday" really isn't the case any more. I see this as a bad move for Nextel Cup but the Car of Tommorrow is too. NASCAR is starting to stray too far from it's roots IMO.

NASCAR strayed from its roots a long time ago. i am just tired of the japs coming into american motorsports and utterly dominating as far as powerplants and/or platforms. chevy went from the engine to have in INDY, to the engine to lose with. honda is mopping up. Also, Honda/Toyota isn't making sporty cars. people who really watch racing more than likely like fast/sporty cars. an S2000 doesn't do it, and toyota has nothing. let them spend their money thi. they actually are making a profit they can spend

The whole Win on Sunday, Sell on Monday can't work for Toyota. They only sell economy cars now. I don't see how economy cars fit in with racing.
