View Full Version : Door speakers in 97 Camaro.
I got 3-way Pioneer speakers today but the Crutchfield 'Mastersheet' does not go into how to splice the factory 4 wire speaker connecter to the two wire (pos/neg) connections on the speakers.
Do I cut two of them and only use two (pos/neg)? Or do I splice all the positive wires together?

I believe you can use just two wires and cap the other two off. The factory system is designed to run at 2 ohms and your new speakers will be 4 ohms. You might notice a slight decrease in volume but not much. You got 6 3/4" speaks , right?

I ordered 6.5, on the front of the box: "fits GM 6 3/4".
I thought the 2 OHM speakers were only on the Monsume sound system option?

You may be right , the extra wires could be for optional tweeters. You did get the correct size .
Installed them today, volume is lesser, like half. Two wires for tweeter and two for mid/other range.

Are you using the factory head unit or an aftermarket head unit? Return those speakers and get them from GM Parts Direct for about $30 a piece. It will sound much better with the factory head unit. You are right about the wires, one pair is for highs and one pair is for mid/low range.

Thank you Captain Obvious. I noticed that after I posted, but I wasn't the one that brought it back from the dead, someone else did.
