Here's a very rare Ford limited production car built for racing. The front end was designed by none other than Larry Shinoda. Hard to believe this is a Torino:

Built for NASCAR , a few cars made it to the street . Very rare and very valuable!

Not to be outdone, Mercury came up with their own version , the Cyclone Spoiler II , even more rare and it is believed to be a bit more areodynamic that the King Cobra. Here's one:

They do look like a Torino with a 240Z front end. The King Cobra with a Boss 429 is interesting though. I'd like to find a Boss 429 motor somehow and put it in a 70-71 Torino. That's what Ford should have done in the first place, instead of creating a bunch of rigged up Mustangs.

Chrysler was also involved with continuing the Superbird/Daytona for 1971 but it was canceled as well.

Hot Rod had a good article on building a Boss 429 motor from a 460 a month or 2 ago.
