I'm sorry man, I use to have a 97 Formula, sadly I lost mine also in an accident. Yours looks much worse then mine although. I'm sorry, I know how much it sucks to lose a great car.

That sounds like no fun at all...as others noted the car can be replaced a lot easier than you can...

I had not thought of that Mike until my Dad called me earlier today.
Guess what I found here recently? A red 90-92 Firebird (newer nose and GFX - think like James' car) for the small price of $400 :o
If I get the opportunity to buy this one back from the insurance company I may do that, but the only problem is that I don't have the cash to buy that other car.
Sorry about your car. Glad to see that you are ok. I hope you can get enough to buy the firebird and do a swap.

Now you know that there are going to be leftover , usable parts from the 4th gen. Here's what ya do: Ebay 'em ! You should be able to find plenty of parts to sell to recoup your cost of the 3rd gen. Heck , you just might even come out ahead! I bought a thoroughly trashed IROC -Z off of ebay , kept all the suspension goodies and sold 350.00 of parts for a car I paid 100.00 for. Figure in 75.00 for gas to get the car and I still came out smelling like a rose!

It takes alot of time, space and $$$ for a swap like that. I hate to sound like a negative nancy but how much of any of those three things do you have?
I say, LS1 time! :D

I'm going to look at another car here in a few minutes.
It's a 99 Mystic Teal Trans Am with 33k miles. M6, mostly stock. BEAUTIMUS car!!! And the price is pretty good too.

Now where talking. :D
We going to turn it into an A4 car??
LWillmann

I'll probably run it as an M6 for a while anyway. If I get that car, I'll probably be parting the Formula.
I've already had someone speak for the trans/converter, driveshaft, what's left of the front suspension and LS1 brakes.
I'll have the stock seats, the engine with accessories, harness (assuming I can get it out of there), and PCM , the y-pipe (headers are damaged but might be fixable), the rear end, and the DS loop. I might even sell my racing seats and nitrous kit from the Formula to help offset the cost of the new car.
Oh, and 3 stock 16" wheels with almost brand new tires on them. >95% tread left I'd say. I put those tires on for the winter.
But the parting of the car is entirely dependant on my getting this other car. If I don't get this other car, I may not part out the Formula to save the parts for something else... Wonder if I can put the LT1 in my grandma's Cutlass???
Uncle Paul

LT1 in the Cutlass?
That would be interesting. :D
Oh, what about an S-10?? :!

It can most definatley be done. You will need a new tranny crossmember and there will be some custom work need but it can be done. You will need a 4.3 V6 gas tank from a monte or grand prix to get a fuel pump comptable tank. Then the cooling system needs a custom radiator I think. If you dig around some Hot Rod or Car craft did the swap into an El Camino which is basically the same car.

Bear in mind the LT! is the same dimensions and mounting as a regular small block Chevy . They certainly did put those in a lot of GM cars. One of the guys I work with just put an LT1 from an Impala SS in his '90 full size Chevy pickup. His worst hassle was the wiring.

A machine shop offered to buy the complete engine, with accessories, harness PCM and LT1 Edit cable. So I think I'll sell the engine and put the money toward the LS1 car if I can get it
