I have a guy that is wanting to upgrade his brakes on his 1999 TA.
I am thinking that he is wanting to stay away from the high dollar stuff and stay more with a budget upgrade.
I was wondering what you guys have done and what the cost was.
My first thought of course was going with upgraded rotors for about $400 for the front and the rear.
Then the C5 rotor's (along with the brakcets) was the next thing I thought off. $250 for the brackets and $230 for the rotors. (Front only)
The full C5 front brake conversion being the most expensive, around $1000.
I found one site where they are selling an Aerospace caliper and rotor set for $635. (Front)
Just kind of throwing these ideas out there.

The brembo OEM rotors are pretty good. look stock, but from everything ive read from ppls use of them, you don't warp them. they are only like 280 for a set of 4 from tire rack. that with some braided lines, and a good set of pads like hawks would be a nice upgrade without goin all out for a full brake system

Yea, Go with Brembo Blanks best rotors you'll get for the dollar, and they perform like nothing else...But I'm biased thats what I have lol

One of the trends I've noticed is a straying from the drilled/slotted rotors to the just slotted. The general consensus is the drilled ones are not easiest to resurface and prone to cracking. You might want to check with SSBC , they seem to have reasonable prices. Baer is also offering an economy line of rotors through auto parts chains like Autozone now.

The stock rear brakes should be plenty. Some of the racers (road course) guys are proportioning the rears down even further.
The C5 upgrade for the fronts is pretty popular. The replacement rotors are cheap too, $19. That's a big part of their popularity. Once the conversion is done, maintenance is a lot cheaper.

The C5 conversion can be done for as low as $700 or so.
EDIT: For what it's worth, if I hadn't been running the wheels I'm running, I would have gone to the C5 front brakes instead of the LS1 setup that I have now. But I'm VERY happy with my LS1 front brakes!

Yeah you're not going to beat the C5 upgrade for cost effectiveness, and it matches the performance of $2000 systems. Not quite the 'bling' of a big 4 piston monobloc Brembo caliper, but then again the beauty is the parts are readily available from any GM dealer should he need replacement items.

yea, not gonna beat the cost effectiveness of the C5 setup, and the new LS7 setup isn't holding up to much abuse - per realiable sources, not just internet rumor. you can hit up UMI or a few independent people who offer the C5 conversion kit and get all the hardware minus the pads and rotors for not a whole lot of money. great upgrade from stock. i will be doing it if i keep the T/A.

As far as cost effective, I'd try just upgrading pads first.
That will get you more whoa for the same pedal if you
get a high friction compound. But you have to work out
the tradeoffs, some pads are great when hot but poor
on the street, etc., some excellent pads make too much
dust for the show-n-shine types and so on.

Go To Ws6 Store. You Can Get 4 New Rotors For $170. It's The Rotoworks Slotted/drilled Package.
