My grandmother has a 1988 Old Cutlass Supreme Classic (think 2-door, RWD). It's got over 200k miles on it, and is showing it's age. It's leaking oil pretty badly and needs some help. So it's coming to live with me so I can work on it.

It's got a 5.0L/307 in it with an automatic transmission. Not sure about anything other than that.

Can anyone here provide some good tech info, or locations where I might find good tech info for the car. I would naturally prefer it to be here, so we can generate traffic, but if it has to be elsewhere, so be it.

I'm going to be looking to seal the oil leaks, get rid of the emissions crap, and give it a general tune up to start with. It probably needs a fresh motor, and I'm certainly considering that too. It depends on cost though.

Let me see what I can answer for you Lee. As far as the emissions junk goes just start yanking stuff out and you may need to plug some holes in the manifolds to seal it back up and you will need to either plug the air line to the cat or just removed the cat completely. If it isn't leaking overly bad I would just live with it in the mean time and start building something else for it as the 307 has little to no performance support and was pretty much a dead motor when that car was built.

I would start personally start building a 350 chevy and find a 700r4 for it. It is a straight forward swap and will give you a decent platform to mod later.
