Racing rims look great but what's the deal with the wheel sizes ? Let's take a moment and review this. First off , a 13" , 14"or 15" rim is not your best performance bet on a sport compact . The taller the sidewall , the more tire "squirm" you will have in the corners. A low profile 50 or 40 series tire is going to give you better handling characteristics. There are shorter sidewalls , but there is a downside to all of this. The shorter the sidewall (i.e 40, 35 series tires) has a tendency to not absorb as much of an impact caused by driving over a pothole , rough roads , etc. This can leave you with a high dollar set of bent rims. A 50 or 45 series is a better bet.
In terms of wheel sizes , one might think the bigger the rim , the better it is for all out racing applications . Not true either . A wheel is a rotating mass and oversized rims , while they look cool , can scrub off speed . Most experts will tell you that anything over an 18" rim on a sport compact is not the best thing in terms of performance in terms of wheel mass . A little food for thought when plunking down your hard earned bucks. If you're after bling , go for it . If you want real performance , choose carefully.
