Man, my car has never been fast, and I've never claimed for it to be fast, thats why I stick to show and shine where I still suck just as bad.....but you would think by reading ya'lls posts that ya'll were deep in the 6's and some of the heavy hitters on the street racing scene. Maybe if you go hang out with all the rice and bolt on GTs at Westgate it would make you think your cars are fast, but geez. I've learned that if you arne't at least deep into the 7's, you really have no say in anything racing related lol. Ya'll just stop...it is entertaining to say the least though!

I will say this:
I miss my LT1 car.
But if I had an LSx engine and T56 to drop into my Cutty, I'd do it in a heartbeat.
But, SBC vs LT1, I'll keep by LT1 to stay away from the Optispark and not have to convert it to a dizzy.
But, I think sticking a T56 behind the SBC would be a blast.

Imo pulling the heads off isn't hard either. Guess everything is harder the first time. None of these 2 guy knew how to do opti. And now they can do it in less the 2 hrs just a matter of learning. Imo.

This can be done easily with an LS1 too. Just as easily as an LT1, I might add.
It's a matter of preference.
These days there seems to be a lot more potential for the LSx series engine. There is certainly more support out there for it, because the engine platform is used in multiple vehicles.

Not necessarily true.
Plenty of LS1 cars put down over 330 RWHP stock. Throw a 150HP wet kit on it and call it a day. Way less cost than a cam or set of heads.
Traditionally the reasonable limit for nitrous is 20HP per cylinder (assuming a truly stock shortblock), so at 150HP, you're within that, and we know the LS1 can handle at least that as long as you're not revving to the moon and stressing the rod bolts.
But, I didn't realize we were discussing having to purchase the car to get the engine. I was merely discussing the aftermarket parts support and my personal preferences as to which engine I would prefer to have in my car if given a choice.

Made mine 292 stock. Ended up making 360 to the tires with bolt on's. Ran the same as my 305 rwhp LT1, lol. Sure, the GTO weighed more than my Camaro, but I also had bought lots more expensive parts (like intake manifolds and LT headers) vs the much cheaper LT1 stuff. The only real advantage of the LS1 stuff is in stock/bolt on form. Both heads when ported flow the same and make the same amount of power. Both motors have aftermarket heads that pretty much flow and make the same power.
For years regular SBC's have been going fast, yet there seems, well rather is, a whole crop of retards that somehow dont think you can go fast unless you have a LSX motor. And I rather enjoy these guys.:thumbs up:

Don't get me wrong, I really liked the Mach 1's, thought it was a great package, but I felt they were under powered. I felt they needed something more under the hood than they had, something to put them closer to the 'vette, IMO.
But then I have a different opinion of performance packages on vehicles from manufacturers.
Mustang for example:
I feel that if you buy a base model, you get a base model for a base price. If you buy a premium V6, you should get a premium V6, with a premium tune that has more power than the base model. If you buy the base GT, you get the base GT V8 tuning. If you buy the GT Premium you get the premium options, plus a tune with more power. The California Special, a different tune that gives slightly more power maybe, in addition to the appearance mods. You want the Mach 1, give the people a factory CAI, bump the tuning, change the gears, etc and make it really worth their while to own the thing. Make it worth their hard earned $$$.
For Camaro in 2011:
1LT: 305 HP for the auto, 315 for the manual.
1LT/RS: 315 HP for the auto, 325 for the manual.
2LT: 315 for the auto, 325 for the manual
2LT/RS: 325 auto, 335 for the manual.
1SS: 425 auto, 450 manual.
1SS/RS: 440 auto, 465 manual
2SS: 440 auto, 465 manual.
2SS/RS: 465 auto, 480 manual.
2012:
Z/28: 550 manual <--- only offered in manual editions.
Z/28 / RS : 575 manual
I expect the Camaro to keep the same basic trim packages, but would like to see the RS offered up for all trim levels.
And most importantly, keep the pricing where it is. There is no problem changing the tuning. It's just a matter of flashing the PCM for them, so have at it.

And your pig of an LT1 isn't? There's 200-300's difference (roughly) between the 4th and 5th gen Camaro, model - model.
Add the extra power over the 4th gen that the 5th gen would get in my line-up and I think it would get an obvious advantage.
Where the 5th gen comes up really short is in gearing and tire size. Tall tires plus poor gearing IMO. They need 4.10's from the factory if they're gonna run the big a$$ wheels. That really seems to wake them up.
If my LT1 car weighed as much as a 2SS/RS 5th gen Camaro and would walk a Mach 1 that 'compares to the ls1s', then I'd say the extra horsepower will certainly help the 5th gen.
IMO, people have become jaded and even complacent with big HP numbers. They expect it these days. If you're not running a 10 or 11 second (1/4 mile) street car, you don't have squat in other people's eyes.
When I made my post above, I was speaking from the standpoint of giving peope their money's worth, not HP for weight. If you had read my post, you would have seen that in with the Mustang example.
Some people might want a middle of the road V8 with the appearance package, while others might want a full-out V8 and be willing to pay the extra money to get it.
When I built my car, I set a RWHP goal, and almost had it when a Cadillac pulled out in front of me and took the car and almost my life away from me three weeks after my son was born.
I look at things differently than you guys do. A lot of you guys look at it from the LT1 vs LS1, or GM vs Ford vs Crysler (Dodge), or this HP vs that HP, or this time vs that time, or this callout vs that callout, etc. I just don't always see it that way. Sometimes I do, but it's not always cut and dry like that for me.

Mach 1's have the 4.6L DOHC engine, they are a little different from the old 99/01 Cobra engine. The heads flow better and the cams are a little more aggresive.

lol. all the parts i put on my car is stuff i accumulated while playing with my old cobra. yea, i was pretty disappointed with the outcome after all the mods. youd be suprised how little i really do have in all my mods though

at least your picked up. the jeep went 8.5 stock, put a cold air intake and tune and it went 8.9s. thats $500.00 and LOST 4 tenths.

lol. true. mine did pick up mph, but it lost 60 foot. i added up ALL my parts and it totaled right at 1500. the rest was parts ive accumulated from recent cars. not bad imo.

my mach 1, absolutely positively bone stock went 8.32 at union with a nitto dr. i put a cai and upr front suspension on and went 8.14. now i have upr front suspension, cai, off road h, magnapacs, 4.30 gear, 6 speed, and short shifter, tune, and the best now is 8.05.
Well shoot, my LT1 bone stock with 400lbs of stereo and my 240lbs ass, car seat and all went 9.20's (2.73 gears). Pull the stereo, car seat, stick bolt ons and gears (2.73's on the auto) on it and it out runs Mach 1's with ~300 RWHP on a street tune and even better with a lean arse (15:1) nitrous shot.

I got lucky. My mods run me from 238RWHP to 290RWHP NA, and over 415 RWHP on the bottle. (315 RWTQ on the stock trans, NA)
I did good. Last run on my car, even lean as hell showed me daylight on the front wheel at the track.
With the 125HP wet shot on the street, at 70MPH when it started spraying, it went sideways. My car was strong for 120K miles, and a 4000lb pig.

lol. this argument could go on for ever. all im saying is my mach 1(in my opinion was a factory freak) impressed me. it put up good numbers at the track. stock for stock i would put it against nearly anything. i even put it against modded cars that i thought would walk it and it held its ground pretty well. of course, its not stock anymore, so them days are over.

everyone has there own opinion on which is faster(stock for stock), or what not. and i would argue til im blue in the face that machs are. but it doesnt really do much good because im obviously not stock anymore and neither is 99% of the ls1s on here to find out.

I know since many on here think Shon's old silver car was a race car, I'll use my old Lt1 car as an example. '96 Lt1/M6 car. 52mm TB, 1.6 rockers, 1 5/8's shorty headers, exhaust dumping underneath as well as a MSD 6 AL box. 4.10 gear. It had a BMR K member and rear sway bar, Jegster/Mac torque arm. Stock springs, shocks, control arms and panhard bar. Front and rear bumpers were gone, as was the back seat. Weighed 3360 with me in it. It would go 7.8/88 ish mph in the heat on a 255/50-16 BFG DR. On spray it went 7.14/98.8 mph on a 26x11.50-16 ET Street.
Now, dont get me wrong, I know Mach 1's can be made fast. I know some (Jeff Schmell for example) have went just as fast as I did in Shon's car (11.8/115) with bolt on's on motor. Maybe stock for stock the Mach 1's are quicker than a LT1 car, but not after some bolt on's. They're really close. Which, is no where near as quick as the faster LS1 cars. In the 1/8th mile Mustangs have alway been pretty close stock for stock, thanks mostly to the far superior gearing that comes in them. DT's old Cobra was one of the few 4 valve cars that did suprise me, it was waaaaay faster than all the rest in the area, and it was a '99 model, the year that SUCKED lol. That thing would crack off 8.4's on the norm, and it really didnt have anything done. That being said I like 4 valve cars, in particular the Mach 1's. High revving motor, solid rear end is nice.
Then again, that was 10 years ago, so it doesnt count...Does it Gary?

no idea. the day i bought it i put my cobra wheels and tires on it. my car would run 8.4x all day as stock as a stock gets, except dr's. it went accasional 8.3Xs. when i say stock, i mean STOCK.

push rod engines are definately cheaper and the lt/ls engines have the mod motors by 60+ cubes. so yes i agree, modded vs. modded the 4v mod engines are definitely underdogs.
