Now that the SS is gone, I need something to tinker with this summer. I bought the Iroc back from my dad minus the trans and the motor. I can't get my mind off of a Gen 3 motor and still have a lot of LS1 parts so the inevitable has begun. Hopefully this swap doesn't take as long as JuJu's has lmao.
Its time for an LS swap into the turd!! I went and picked up a complete 98 LS1 this morning with computer and wiring harness. Its going carbed though. Going with a TH350 also. Keeping stock exhaust manifolds on it unless I decide to spend $800 with Hawks for the swap LT's.
The plan for the motor is a stock shortblock freshened up with ARP rod bolts, Milled 241's and a TSP 224R.
Parts I don't have:
Edelbrock Performer RPM Intake
MSD or Edelbrock ignition control box
LSX swap motor mounts
TH350 and swap parts
3000 stall
Carb
Parts I do have:
TSP 224R
Comp PR's
Meiling HV oil pump
241's
Comp 918 springs
Complete LS1
In addition to what I need is an alternator, a starter, and the 2 rear long oil pan bolts that thread into the rear cover.

Sounds like a fun build. If it was me i would forge it while it is out of the car for maybe a big shot in the future.

I don't want to stretch the limits on the rearend that is in the car now. Its a freshly rebuilt 10 bolt with a Detroit True Trac unit, a TA studded girdle, and a GM 3.42. I think it will last off the footbrake with a 400ish rwhp car with a TH350 in front of it. I hope its up to the task, we'll find out.
The whole point in this is to have a nice, good looking, full interior, 7 second car that is reliable and can be driven back and forth to the track and cruise around in like out to quaker or to shows.
It will have A/C but that will have to be a little later since the initial cost of getting the car running will not leave enough for the lines and the tubular K member. That is a necessity for room for the compressor. The Iroc has A/C now with all new components so might as well hook it up later on down the road.
Needless to say any 10 bolt, however "built" it may be will reach its limits before a fresh LS1 stock shortblock with ARP rod bolts.
Also keep in mind I'm trying to do this on a budget also. You guys know how this works... Reliable, Big Power, Cheap. Pick any 2 of those 3 options. You can make big power for cheap, but it wont be reliable, etc etc.

Pretty sure I have a starter in my garage and I have some brand new Poly motor mounts (if they fit)

Neat project, let me know if you need anything.
I also carry the cable X boxes that are used to run the stock speedoParts I don't have:

I told you guys to keep it a secret because I wasn't sure when this project would be underway and wasn't sure if I wanted to fork out the money for the swap parts but I just lucked up and got a complete LS1 for cheap cheap so now the build is official. I've priced it all out and I'm going to come out cheaper with the Gen 3 swap than I would building a Gen 1 sbc.

why go th350? u could build the 700r4 to hold the power fairly reasonable and still be great for driving to the beach and every where else on the highway trips

My car is an 87 so it has the cable driven mechanical speedo. Will the stock speedo cable not work on a TH350?

The 305/700R4 thats in it now is going in the '70 C-10 thats been in the family since it was new so it can get some better gas mileage. The 300,000+ miles on the untouched original 350 isn't exactly easy on the pocket when its time to fill her up.
Buying a 700R4 + Building it + Buying a nice converter = More money than I want to put into the whole entire project. It cost me $800 just in parts to build the 700 thats in the car now, and that was with a low end regular street stall converter. I'd say I'd have at least $1500 in a 700 setup with a nice converter to hold the power. I'll have about $600 in the TH350 with a converter probably. :thumbs up:
Plus its gonna be carbed so I'm not looking for great gas mileage. A TH350 with the 3.42 gear thats in it will still get me to the beach just fine, as well as down the track.
should put an LT1 in it.
Had too many LS1 parts laying around not to do this. I've heard of some turdgens with LT1's that run pretty good though :D.

You sir have a text.
Any of you guys know a local body shop/guy who can fix the quarter panel and spray this thing for me? I'm not looking for anything outrageous, I know Image, etc. are good but I can't afford that if you get my drift. The quarter just needs to be fixed, not replaced. It will basically be ready for the dent fixing and spraying the car when I bring it.

Did you get any swap motor mounts yet ? I have a set of Spohn LS/third gen mounts that have just been bolted in but never run, and a new set of poly to go with them. I can also make you an A/C bracket to use your third gen compressor. Did you see my car at the beach? PM me if interested, Dean

Yes I did see your setup and it is absolutely amazing. You just volunteered to do what I need, what's the ticket on the a/c bracket and the details on it like what belt size and tensioner, and also pm me a price on the motor mounts. I haven't purchased them yet because I was thinking about buying the k member. Thanks man.
