how much spacer is needed and do you need to cut the stock studs?

justamach
03-03-2010, 04:25 PM
from what ive gathered, you have to have a 1 and 3/4 backspacing and a 1" spacer on a 15 by 3.5 wheel. ive not read anything about cutting the stock studs.

I dont think you can fit 15" wheels on the rear. I tried with my old 99 cobra and part of the irs was in the way, we tried grinding the piece that was keeping us from mounting the wheels, but it didnt help. Go straight axle and then there will be no worries with mounting a 15" wheel.

why would a mustang need a 15inch wheel, they hook on stock radials so i cant see why a slick would be needed.?

i have 03 cobra brakes on the front...

after reading more, 15" wheels wont fit on irs cobras because of the tie rod.. and it takes a 1" spacer on front to fit a 15x3.5, possibly cutting the wheel studs if you use bolt-on spacers. you can do 1.5" spacers but youre strait messican status then...

the same reason people put cams in ls1 cars 90% of the time...

you need a 17 to do it right lol

well im one of them that put the cam in my ls1 car but i also gained 40 rwhp so why would that be a waste? If you could gain 40rwhp NA in your mustang for 400 bucks would you do it LOL.

lol tim if a mustang picked up 40rwhp, that would be a 50% increase.

Thats what happens when it isnt that epensive to do and can do it in your driveway in a couple hours. Cant beat the price per hp enless were talking nitrous IMO

so it only takes 40 hp to run low 6s you wasted an ass of money on your last set up then:taunt:

but you are right the 1/8 mile record on drag radials was broke and reset like 4 times on a stock susp. mustang last weekend so you dont need a slick

The EnforceR

Well to set a drag radial record....of course you don't need a slick....you hafta have DRs....silly.

You had to know we wouldnt know the answer to your question on here and there is a big diffrence between those cars and your 04. Not hating at all either there is some real fast stangs out there and on here also. Hell i would even own a nice 93-94 stang to make a drag car out of but would have a gm motor in it ;)

PS: Nice pics those cars look sick.

93-94? I see a lotbof cammed ls1s run mid to high 8s. Maybe 400 dollar tires would be a better upgrade :)

A I/E tuned Mach 1 shouldn't have a problem running a low 8, long as you can cut a good 60'.

SlowOhFoh
03-04-2010, 12:21 PM
FR500 cam kit should pick up some nice gains on that mach1 if you can find one... oh and its 650 bucks for 4 cams, springs and retainers... gives the car a little bit of a nasty lope...

david wolfes car is stock suspension... so not TOOOO much is different :P

How many stock or even I/E full weight GT's or mach 1's has anyone seen around here run low 8s(8.0-8.20) on motor? Prob a few but i sure havent seen any .Just like i havent see many full weight stock ls1s run low 8s but im sure it has happened.

Who runs full weight? i've got a rear seat delete on the way to my house right now... 37lbs out... idk anyone who plans on racing who doesnt take out the spare tire and jack stuff... i havent had mine for over 3yrs(mainly because they dotn fit anymore)...

and most GT's run 74-75mph it seems, per greer i've got a highway killuh 2v car at 79.9mph

I ment for the mach1 but even if that is high i just dont see them running low 8s enless it is 60 footing like a monster in a 3500lb or so car. They only weight reduction i have ever done was the spare tire just been to lazy to do anything else LOL

Not a Mach 1, but my old 99 cobra went 8.20s with I/E and bfg drs. I think it went 85-86mph

justamach
03-04-2010, 04:43 PM
BONE STOCK with nitto drs, i went 8.37 at union. cai and front suspension and drs i went 8.14 at shadyside. the past few saturdays ive been trying to get the feel for my car.i put a new tranny and clutch in and i havnt drove it in 2 months cause of all the weather. it feels like a completely different car with the new tranny. i have time slips if you dont believe me

Most I ever picked up from a tune was 5rwhp.

MrDavid
03-06-2010, 06:33 AM

A buddy of mine has a Mach 1 that doesn't have anything but an intake, and after we tuned it, it felt like there was a big difference

david, what you heard must be about another car. my car has never even been on the dyno. i have no reason to lie about it. i tried using my sct xcal 2 to play around on the mach, but it wouldnt let me because it still has a tune programed in it from my old car. the only thing it would let me do was read codes

SlowOhFoh
03-06-2010, 09:49 AM
need to unmarry it from that old ecu... untill you do its locked down.

i've got a predator for sale for cheap if you want to get an unmarried tuner :)

i appreciate the offer man, but i will be tuning within the next week. im pretty sure i unmarried it, but it still has the tune for the old car programed in the tuner. the xcal 2 does not have preprogrammed tune to install. from what i understand it has to be custom tuned and you are able to tinker with it after its been tuned for that vehicle

MrDavid
03-06-2010, 07:56 PM
So it has some sort of tune in it other than stock right?

FYI, I had the same issue with a handheld tuner before I got a real tune on my pewter car. I no longer had the handheld, but my car still had that tune in it. I ended up having to go to the dealership and have a stock tune uploaded back into the car ($20) before it could even be tuned by HP tuners.

the mach has no tune in it. the tune in the xcal will not load into the mach computer. it has a different computer in the mach than the cobra. when you do a tune you have to put the computers "number" "code" "whatever its called" in the tuner and it only works on that computer. when i try to load the tune, it says incorrect vehicle.
