My name is Larry Drummond, my son Jaycey was killed July 30th 2009 in a car accident. Jaycey best friend Grant was driving when an elderly man pulled out in front of the striking them and pushing them into oncoming traffic. Jaycey had gotten a 1995 Nissan 240sx from a local junk yard and was in the process of fixing it up when he was taken from us. His mother and I talked to his friends about finishing the car for him and giving it to Grant if he servived.
Grant woke from his coma and is now back to school and helping with the build...We have had so many people help with this project it's unbelievable! we would like to bring the car to the Friday night events when its finished. I will post pics of the progress. We have many sponsors helping with parts. all the labor is done by young adults 17-20 years old on a budget. I will post pics as soon as I figure out how!

Sorry to hear of your loss. Are you asking for our help or what? Not many of us on here get into those types of cars, but it's always neat to see people pull together to do these things. What Friday night events are you referring to? I don't think we have any Friday night events around here.

Although this site is open to anyone from anywhere, the majority of people on this site are from SC. I've never heard of Stones River Mall before.....don't believe anyone else around here has either lol. Where are you from?
If it were up to all of us here...that 240 would be sporting an LS1!

oops... thought this was for the Murfreesboro Hot Rod Club. as for the LS1, this four banger would put it to shame...I've been a chevy man my whole life but to get 420hp to the flywheel with a four cylinder without nos has made me interested to say the least.

Murfreesboro Hot Rod Club is VERY WELCOME HERE!
I'm sorry for your loss.
This story warms my heart too.
Guys, Stones River Mall is in the Nashville/Murfressboro Metro Area in general here in Tennessee.
Loving Father, I'm in Sparta, roughly 80-ish miles East of you I guess. And while the majority of our users are from South Carolina, the owners (Badjuju342 and I) are both from Tennessee.

I know!!! like I said I'm a LS1 fan but with stock internals and just bolt ons this sr20det will eat my TA up. mind you its a stock 2001 ws6 but when this
t4 spools up its impressive even to a domestic driver...now a built LS1 $$$ is a whole other story. not saying anything against anybody but I was very closed minded about these cars until I had to work on one...just do a little research and you might give them just a little respect or maybe not. one of my sons friends runs a RB26 in his 240sx and I watched him blow the doors off just about anything short of a full race car set-up and for about $5,000 worth of engine work thats not bad.

Very sorry for you loss man. As mentioned, we are mostly LS/LT guys on here, but I think the majority of us still find a little interest in a built import making big power, as long as it looks good. We aren't too fond of fast "shit boxes" though LOL. I hope you keep updating this thread with more pictures. Good luck to you and all the guys helping with the build.

funny you should say "shit boxes" thats what I call them...pisses the boys off haha.we are going for a clean look not flashy or ricer look. this is the first import I've ever built up, my first car in high school was a 1971 GTO with a 455 then went to a 82 Z28 with a built small block, few daily drivers then got a 2001 WS6 TA.
MrDavid
01-31-2010, 09:19 PM
You should dump a little money into that TA. It will pin you to the seat with just a few mods if you know where to put the money.
We have had a few guys drift in and out of here in the past that have fast imports, but they haven't spent a dime on the looks of the car. Those are the shit boxes i'm referring to.
BTW, welcome to the board.

Tint on Wheels with full tint work
Byrd paint & supply with all paint and prep supplies
also several others to be mentioned later...thank you all!

If you could bring it to they're attention that would be great. we still need to do lots of work yet but I think I have prepared for the job with parts and labor lined out for each step(until I get a curve ball). We are interested in any exposure we can get. just got a curve ball while I'm typing...suspension sponsor backed out due to "the economy", not a problem we can't handle though.

Larry, Thank you for sharing your memories about Jaycey. I think it's awesome that you are finishing his 240. I love the body style of these cars.....and based on the pics.....you're doing a high quality project. I know Grant and Jaycey's other friends are enjoying this project as much as you are.
While I can in no way understand your loss....I can relate in a small way......as I almost lost my son twice due to a drug overdose.
In some small way.. I know that the love and fellowship that you are sharing with Jaycey friends will help you deal with this great loss.....and will have a positive impact on them as well.
Again, thank you for sharing. Please keep us updated on your progress!

we are shooting for the end of March but you how builds go. even after we get it running and all the bugs worked out it has to go back to the paint booth( found some issues in the paint job ) but my painter will make it right.
we must have it ready to show at the Import Alliance event in July at the Nashville Superspeedway. motor should go in this weekend.

Yea it was in Dorchester. Clay Phillips was his name. He was riding with a drunk driver who lost control of the car....car flipped, Clay was thrown from it and struck by multiple vehicles. Sad sad thing, he was a good kid who was a top chef at one of those high-end fine dining places in Charleston. Bethany knew him pretty well too, but lost contact with him the past few years. They were neighbors in River Falls growing up.

I thought I was going to have to order exhaust manifold studs online for this SR20 @ $5.00 each x8 but a local hardware store had them when no auto parts even knew how to order them, got em for $2.15 ea. apparently a 10mm 1.25 stud is to much for Autozone to handle because if it's not on the screen in front of them they go blank faced. haha

Silence Gayre. This is a big deal build here. You need some good pictures to document it. Your engine looks good thus far, but I think you need some better pictures to do it justice.

I thought about it last night and you are right...this thing deserves better pictures. I've got some friends with nice cameras, I'll talk to them about letting me borrow one or they can come take them for us. Thanks for the encouragement. we are behind schedule as of now but I hope we can make up some work. Painter says he can't do the cam cover until the end of March so we will use the one thats on it and change it right before we give it to Grant. this is the part of the build that seems to drag out...nickel and dime ya to death. The one off parts keep me interested though(nice when people ask where can I get one of those and I say you can't)

I've got a 3.2 Megapixel digital camera with a memory card that I believe I can donate to your cause.
I'll have to double-check with the boss, but if I can get away with it, we'll call it a gift from Club Hi Octane.

Thank you sir, I talked to my 10 yr. old and she said I could use the pink 6.1 mp camera that Santa brought..haha but thank you so much. I'm ordering our braided hose and AN fittings this week $$$. you know I've never owned a car that had this much work done to it, this young man is getting a nice ride. Jaycey's birthday is friday, he would have been 19. gonna take a break at the end of March, spring break in Orlando with the wife and kids. putting the bike in the back of the truck, taking Grant and his girlfriend and one other of my sons friends(two vehicles). I'll take pics with my new Barbi cam(not really Barbi). oh...we have a new sponsor enjunkuracing.com says they can help with some of the smaller parts! great news. just sucks I have to build the car without him, he was very specific how he wanted this car and I can't remember everything and what I think is cool the boys may not so it has a little hotrod inspiration
Loving Father

Enjukuracing.com donated new pulleys and spark plugs...thank you. We ran into a few problems...gasket set donated by Cometic is for a s14 sr20det and ours is a s13 so the intake and the cam cover gaskets are different. also layed the wiring harness out and it's a mess! new one needed I'm afraid $379.00. The wonderful world of motor swaps.
schedule is shot but not freakin' out yet. sent the cam cover off yesterday to be painted, keep your fingers crossed! yesterday would have been my boys 19th birthday...Happy Birthday Jaycey!

Damn it! another snag....wife fell off the deck steps taking the dog out at 4am thurs. and broke her leg, compound fracture. she had surgery(steel rod from knee to ankle) and is home now but I have to take care of the kids and everything else! no time for the build right now but I have some of the boys doing a little here and there. Man it seems like it will never get done. on hold for a few weeks.

ok...dropped the cam cover off to the airbrush artist and was very specific how I wanted it done and he seemed to understand but he sent me pictures of it and no no no.
so now I have to wait for him to redo it. I feel like I need to hold peoples hands when they do work for me, so far everytime I've had to have someone else do something it turns out wrong eventhough I explain exactly how I want it....if only I could do it all myself!

I hate to even set a date right now, with all the issues we have had putting a
time line on it seems impossible but maybe the end of May. If I can get it into my hands I know things will flow but waiting on other people is frustrating.

would you believe dude screwed up the paint again...quarter panel a fender need redone. so sick of this. I think my next project I will learn how to paint. I'm not even being picky or anything like that. seems the painter hurried on the prep work and it shows. dead in the water for now, supposed to be fixed today then a few days to dry.

not a reputable shop at all...and yea air drying! when he came and got the car he said paint booth this and paint booth that so I assumed it was a modern paint booth but turns out just a paint booth. this whole paint job has been a nightmare. I'll never deal with this guy again but for now I'm stuck with him.

update...fired the painter, this guy was just more than you would believe. anyway we have a new plan...modern paint booth with baking and a painter thats not retarded(have to laugh or I'll cry). I should have pulled the plug on this guy sooner so I guess I'm a little to blame. just a little bump in the road.
