Ok i was at superchevy weekend a few weeks ago, and looking at teh few 4th gen "show cars". well all but one were rather disgusting! they had rims, and fuel rail covers, and colored plastic around their wires, but their engines were sooooo dirty!

thats gross, its like brushing your teeth, dont pop your hood if your whole engine looks like crap.

now most people will feel a but overwhelmed when they lift their hood, because there is a lot under there, but its really not that hard!

And there really is a trick. . .Bug and tar remover!

Dont use degreaser, its not made for aluminum, or plastic, or any other delicate piece of your engine.

Find yourself a nice car of bug and tar remover, make sure it is safe on aluminum and plastic (they all are, just check) and coat your engine in a nice thick layer (your cold engine!)

Now after the bug and tar remover sits for about 20 minutes take a rag or t-shirt that you dont much care for, and just simply go from one side of the engine to the other, and wipe everything off, you dont need to remove all the dirt, just break the surface of it so the bug and tar remover can get to work, then do another coat

no go grab your hose and put on whatever your favorite nozzle is, i aint scared to take the high pressure to rinse my engine, but some people are hesitant about takinga high pressure hose to their pcm

the electronics under the engine wont be hurt by the water, just dont shoot it directly at them for an extended period of time.

rinse the engine thuroughly! the bug and tar remover does a decent ammount of water to remove, but keep at it. for a day or two after i do this i get a faint smell of the remover when my engine is hot, but no worries.

and a leaf blower works best if you feel the need to dry it.

sry i dont have any good pics but heres what i got.

no bling bling, but you could eat off of it

Just be careful on your stickers with the bug and tar remover. I still want to be able to read my engine displacement 10 years from now.

How do y'all do the firewall and fenderwells? I'm thinking soap and water is fine on the painted part but since my truck is black its hard as hell to do without getting bad waterspots. Any input on an easy way to do it without the spots?

Use a Mr. Clean Auto Dry:confused:

Just a suggestion.

After you wash it use a air compressor with a blow gun or a leaf blower to blow off all the water. I have black as well.

wax that baby! nah, to much work but you could try mixing a small amount of jet dry (spotfree stuff) with distilled water. Then poor it over the clean area and wipe it dry. NO SPOTS! But denali also got it good with the air gun.
