I have a friend that has a LT1/6 speed with 1500 miles from a wrecked corvette. He is begging me to put it in my camaro. What do you guys think? Good, bad...should I go with an LS1 or build up my 327? How much is it worth?

I say go for an LS1.
LT1's suck. :lol
Just from personal experience, the LS1 is easier to work on and the LS1 swap into 1st gens is very popular so the components you will need will be easy to find.

The LT1 would be a lot easier to install and being that the donor car is a Corvette, you wouldn't have to rearrange the serpentine belt components like you would from an F-body or Impala. Go for it! Also Street and Performance ( www.hotrodlane.cc ) has a lot of parts designed to simplify the install. The LT1 is the same mounting as your existing small block. It would be a fun project for you and your dad. And LT1s are a LOT cheaper than comparable LS1s. MSD had a new Opti that is a lot better than the stock distributor setup. The money you save can go towards bolt on goodies. If you can document the mileage and it really is only 1500 miles on the engine , I'd offer about 2500.00 -3000.00 for it. Here's the bummer part : The Corvette does not use the standard T56 transmission but rather uses the ZF one. It won't work without extreme fabrication. On the good side , your existing transmission OR a T56 from a wrecked F-body will.

LS13rdgen does bring up a good point , if you can find a deal on a LS1 /t56 from a wrecked F-body , (not a Corvette ) you might find it simpler for just a tad more cash.

He's asking $5,000 for engine/transmission/wiring etc. So maybe he's asking too much?

How does horsepower compare between LS1/LT1?

Thanks for your help guys, I know everything about my GTP and I'm starting to learn on the Camaro but I know nothing about these. :)

Aproximately 50 hp difference between the two , LS1 is higher. For 5 grand , you could easily buy an LS1 and a T56 with some change left over. The mileage is great but the transmission is useless to you at this point.

Agreed, Although you can get a 427 fully built with tranny for around 10K if you wanted to get real crazy!

You could buy a 4thgen Camaro/bird with an LT1 for that much! You could probably find an LS1/transmission for that too, I think $5,000 is too steep.
