View Full Version : ideas for hood repaint?

like i mentioned in the other post, im taking my hood off and sending it to the body shop tomorrow. i want to have it repainted underneath and on top of course, but want something different than everyone else.
im thinking instead of having the whole scoop painted, just having the sides of it done in black, with a very thin pearl red pintripe separating the silver a black. post up what you think would look good. flames and all that stuff are way out now, but this is just about the only thing that would look clean but be different than the norm.

paint a strip form the scoop to the fornt of the hood and have it shrink as it goes to the bumper

someone else's original idea cant be your original idea? your confusing me..LOL I say K.I.S.S. Keep It Simple Stupid.. Dont get to crazy with it and just do it like your "original idea". No other stuff added. Your car dont have any other red.

Most all that you listed is under hood and not red; you said its burgundy, and every car now days has red calipers (even yellow cars) dont mean a red strip is going to look good. Just my .02, take it or leave it. You can do to much to a car and it looks to busy. Thus taking away from the over all.

the name of the color is flame red pearl. it is a burgundy shade with metallic/pearl whatever in it

Ok w.E. .. Ok how bout this ... no one on here has more red accents than me, so do you think my car would look good with this on my hood in Red?
http://i310.photobucket.com/albums/kk433/NEMESISFRC/45849.jpg
The answer is NNNNNNNNNNNNNNOOOOOOOOOOOOO. It will be trying to do to much.. Im just saying that in my opinion its not going to look good. Your exterior will end up looking like your interior....To much. Again JMO

ehhhh I would say if your set on doing it, do it black. It be more suttle and play way better with your cars scheme Black/Gray. I think red kinda just throw stuff off and look somewhat outta place imo..

07-07-2009, 10:46 PM
so you thinking jsut solid silver? i hate doing things the same as everyone
The EnforceR
07-07-2009, 10:49 PM
if i WERE to throw red in, it would be a VERY small pinstripe, prob 1/8th inch at most. just something to separate the two colors like 2 toned stuff is supposed to be done

Yeah i totally feel you on that. But Gary had point with whole "busy". Youve put alot into your cars appearance, just think red/burgandy kinda take away from overall look. Thats just me though, Id like black. Being your wheels black and other black accents. Or maybe just a darker shade of silver with heavy pearl/metallic??
like slightly darker shade than rest of the hood but with heavy pearl/metallic, enough to make it stand out but not jump out. That be bad azz imo

07-07-2009, 10:53 PM
eh idk about that, i dont need a 4th color lol. to me, cars need 2 main colors for a good look, and then an accent color to break all that up. maybe ive done enough with the accent color, and just need to stick to silver/black for the hood.
ill prob just do the sides of the scoop in black, and no burgundy.

Black def be nice imo. I like underdog on fgms hood alot. Black with white on sides

silver with black on the sides of the cowl it will be. i feel that if the whole scoop were painted, i would need something on the rear deck to match it. it just the sides are done, it doesnt need to be extended ot the end of the car.

he said he was gonna have it in color tomorrow, and ill go by and make sure the fine line is layed how i want it. if it doesnt come out like i want, i can always have a thin pinstripe freehanded on it. im also considering maybe having something ghosted in the black, not sure what but its an option and ill prob change my mind on what i want by tomorrow anyways lol

idkm ultra z aint really for me. granger, that car is from the lowerstate and goes to all the big gatherings and shows. dave sites is his name i believe...cool guy and nice car. i love that style, but it just seems real played out to me. idk. like i said i have until tomorrow afternoon to make my mind up.

Do a manta 2 style stripe. Thats the one like justin has. Its like the regular manta that granger posted but just a 1 inch band with a pinstripe and it goes around the back of the scoop and down the sides. Do the 1 inch part in black and then do the pinstripe on the outsides of it with the garnet color. That would tie everything together pretty good imo.
The EnforceR
07-08-2009, 07:08 PM
yea, thats what im wanting to do...the one like justin has, except i dont want to wrap it around in the back. guess i didnt describe it very well lol.

badges are prob gonna stay, to me the red ties stuff together and keeps it from being so boring i guess. no call from the body shop today, just what i expected lol

your idea isnt a bad one, but i think all that stuff has been done by a hundred other guys on LS1tech. (with their own variations, just like all the other stuff everybody else does....)
i would try and figure out what YOU like and do that. dont even look at other peoples cars for examples.
having said that, i would paint it a solid color and leave it. :nerd:

i think i have made my mind up on painting the whole scoop black, and later on having a garnet pinstripe hand painted on it real thin. im going to the body shop at 4 to make sure the fine line is where iw ant it.

hood's done folks, finally got it to line up very well too. its been cut/buffed and is all the way done now. its got a few spots underneath where it wasnt prepped very well, but its all good. looks a ton better than it did, and i was only charged for the cost of material.

Looks good Kyle. I must admit though, im kind of disappointed that there isnt a "subtle" red pin stripe breakin the black from the red. But still looks great either way..

jon, that stuff is usually done by hand by guys that travel from car show to car show with brushes. it can easily be done no problem, and prob would take hardly any time at all. still may do it, idk yet.

lol early to be drunk.. You both right Im sure. Jon prolly knows a guy, but like kyle said there def people that have their little "shop" trucks. This old guy use to contract all the Vick Bailey lots he did pin stripes by hand,as well scratch repair etc.
I like it as well. Not sure what I would think about the pinstrips. Maybe someone could photoshop them in if their laptop was working.. :)

The guys name is Jeremy Kemp. You and just about everyone on here knows him as well. He is the guy that works at the pop shop(looks like Tom Green) at Westgate Mall. Im sure for a small fee he'll work with you. Im sure if you seen any pin striping on any old car around here, he did it.
