last monday bethany and i drove down to easley to Hawks and picked out colors for some seat covers i ordered. they said it usually takes 10 days to 3 weeks for the stuff to come in. well....only took them 5 days so i had a little surprise at the front door today when i got home. big thanks to bruce and his folks for getting these to me so quickly! pics will follow once i get to work on it!
the seats are black with a light grey insert in the middle section. z/28 will be embroidered in the head rests 1st gen style!

these are factory replacement seat covers that are made in hampton leatherette rather than leater. they are a lot softer and fit just like factory with hog rings.
heres a pic, im gonna have nice embroidery done within the next few days to the front seats to match my badges. todd, im gonna do it myself, bj said it was real easy to do. im about to go rip the seats out now actually.

Let me know how it goes for you if you don't mind. I plan to eventually replace my seat covers as I don't care for the yellow.
From what I was told, I have the Mid America Motorworks covers, and those things are crazy price wise. Thanks to my previous car's owner, I may be able to sell them and get some C6 seats.

why does GM think that have to use different types of freakin bolts for parts of the car that are the same. bottom part of rear seat is 13 mm. seat belts are T45 and T30 torx junk which i dont have. they love makin this stuff harder than it is hahaha. oh well, ill get back at it tomorrow

the new covers are wrinkled terribly.....will these eventually come out? and im wondering if itll just be better to have an interior shop put these one, im sure they can pull them tighter over the seats than i ever could and make them look factory.
what are you going to do with the stock leather covers?
guess ill try to sell them. they are all in great shape, the rears are MINT. front driver side has the normal dime size spot where its worn through.

thanks for the offer, but itll be way easier to go down the street and spend a few bux rather than drive to seneca!

The ones in that pic (hawks link) looked lil wrinkly also I thought.. Im sure you can do it just as well as any interior shop. My friend got covers somewhere for his 300 had same issue, and it was done at rogers.Seemed like some wrinkles went away after being sat in or what not.He ended up taking it to anderson within several months and just having them re do the whole thing. He is a detail freak like you too though lol.

well these arent the cheapo cover, they were over $400 so i expect them to fit like a glove. i may whip out the steamer while i put them on and run the covers over that way. anybody have ant recommendation on a spray adhesive i can use? its no required, but im sure it would help the pleather form to the seats better

06-22-2009, 11:59 PM
Yeah didnt think they where. Dont know how much he spent on his. Recall he said the shop that re did them came to over 800 though. No matter how much cost, still not oem though so fitment issues bound to arise.I would think adhesive spray if anything complicate wrinkle problems. Gotta stretch it as far as possible then throw the hog rings in there. The spray just gonna make where the wrinkles are STAY WRINKLES lol.Being wrinkles more or to much material issue rather than, staying in place or id think. Did you try google it see anyone got vids of upholstering on youtube etc?

I think I have seen a heat gun and glue spray used to properly install seat covers used. The lady that did all the leather install on the Lambo me and few buddys built 7 years ago did it in front of us. Didnt pay to much attention but im sure she used a heat gun to stretch out the leather. I think DIY.com has a vid. on doing this.

frick this rear seat back is hard to do and is wrinkled all to crap haha. it has something called a "j hook" on the backs, and its gotta snap together, seems impossible. oh well, ill keep on trying. i guess once i get them on, ill let them sit out in the sun and conform to the seats.

well heres all i have done as of now.....im going to steam them here in a bit, and hopefully get the wrinkles out. if that doesnt work, the seat covers manufacturer said sitting it out in the sun, especially with a hot day like tomorrow, should take care of most of it and let it conform to the seat. its actually a pretty close match the the silve ron the car, whatcha think?

well....unfortunately no one around here can embroider these things. they have to be embroidered before the sseats are sewn together. i may can figure somethin out later on, but for now they will have to go just plain. i am prob gonna take the passenger and rear upper seats out and redo them, the adhesive didnt stick so they arent really molded to the seats well, but i think it came out pretty decent. the wrinkles have came out a lot as you can see, hopefully after this weekend from sitting in the sun outside, they all be gone.

Really, no one up in S'burg or G'ville can embroider them seats!?!? especially with the covers taken directly to them?
The EnforceR
06-27-2009, 08:59 AM
nope, they say that the embroidery needs to be done before they are sewn together. the machine cant get to that spot on the cover because it would have to go through the bottom of the cover. i think it may be possible to cut a seam going up the backside of the seat, that way the machine could get inside the cover at the top, and then sew it back together, but im not sure how bad/good it would look with another seam going down the middle of the backrest. i was quoted $90 for someone to screen print it, but that would look cheap IMO
hi officer
06-27-2009, 11:00 AM
do you have a lot of little metal rings to clip the leather in the seems to the foam? most seat cover have metal wires in the seat covers and metal wires in the foam you have to fasten together
The EnforceR
06-27-2009, 04:51 PM
yea, all the bottom pieces aew hog ringed. i actually pulled them tighter than they were made to be, so the tightness of the seats arent an issue. the foam on the covers is thick, and its the foam that is mashed up in some spots from where it was in the box. they are getting better with time. once they are all gone, im gonna pull them off halfway, spray some adhesive up in it, and set the cover back down. should fit perfect then if i sit in each one about 5 minutes after its glued so it will stick well to the foam.
also, since the silver interior pieces dont perfectly match the grey on my seat covers, im considering putting some stock pieces back in it. that, paint them gloss black, or paint them the same color as the light grey
