Im starting a new project.......I want some ideas on the paint color and scheme. It's a 4th gen Camaro (conv) with a wide body kit.
Send some pics of great looking Camaro's.
Its a roller right now.........hoping to complete by spring 2010.
I'll disclose more details as the thread develops.......drive train etc.
If someone is good with photoshop......i'd like to experiment with colors....wheels etc.
Any help would be appreciated.

My .02 is that any car that has dramatic body lines like this widebody Fbody will have needs a Silver. Silver is not a true paint, but rather a combination of clear coat and flake. Silver will shadow with body changes and make them POP. What ever you decide Terry I know its going to be BadA$$ just like all your other rides. Keep us up to date.

no two tone looks good if its done correctly, but i just think with the curves this car is gonna have, a two-toned paint will take away from the body curves. check this out terry, tons of cool colors in here.
http://www.ls1tech.com/forums/paint-body-work/529418-custom-paint-color-f-body-post.html
one thing tho...i think the car MUST have a sunoco hood, and also find some way to mold the RS spoiler to the car. shaved handles, shaved antennae, removed side moldings, shaved rear panel, shaved nose badge area, gotta go ALL OUT!

Good pics.....I'll get some pics of the body ......don't have any yet. You guys are right on target with to tone. That was my initial thought....silver and gun metal gray.....separated by white or black stripe. Gunmetal five spokes.
That all changed when I saw a car painted 'house of kolors" brandywine.
I thought about gunmetal hockey stripes......oh it has a 3" high rise hood....gunmetal stripes on the rise. Gunmetal wheels
Grey conv top......like the C6 grey top.......gery leather interior
But I haven't locked in on anything at this point.

Going for clean and simple.....
perfect, thats how i think with mine. hide everything you can under the hood. a car of this cailber needs somethin more than just polished covers on everything. it looks good, but not for this one! think of the engine bay on the silver zues formula. less is more! relocate battery, fuses boxes, get rid of the heater core (who needs that in the summer, a conv. is a summer car!). i think if you thought it out you could hide the a/c stuff too, just a matter of finding longer hoses that will attach to the condensor. i almost had tthis done on my car, all it needs is one hose to be a little longer.

something you have to think about with the two tone paint is matching the conv. top with the color that is on the top half of the car. i think you would be better off giving it a nice base color and accent it with some type of stripe (hockey, manta, etc.) no offense to anyone, but i'm not a fan of silver, a little boring to me. a nice candy or some other type of metallic color would look good. throw on some forgeline wheels or some other type of expensive forged wheels, maybe painted the same as the accent stripe (in this case a metallic color would enhance the styling of the wheel when painted). gotta minitub the car so you can put some huge ass wheels and tires on the back. just a few ideas for ya, its not my money so coming up with ideas is easy.
01BlackBird
02-19-2009, 12:14 AM
I really like the hockey stick idea terry! I think it looks good with the mock up taped off stripe on the side. the car def is gonna be an head turner. I think ccw, hre, fiske, iforged, or so on for the wheels in chrome with a real deep lip. and for the paint i have in my mind some kind of candy color green for some reason, it would be different and get alot of attention. but when it comes down to it its your car and you need to build it to make you happy and what you will love every time you look at it. I figure there will prob be a big cube lsx motor of some type in it or maybe a turbo motor?

Great ideas guys........
No mini tub tho......I ordered a Ford 9" norrowed 3"....with the wide body I've mocked up a 12" wheel for the rear and a 335 tire should fit w/o tubing
Wheels.......I have been on a dozen wheel sites.....leaning toward Boze 3 pc
I have Boze's on my vette and Formula....they're awesome.

terry im starting to lean towards the mesh syle wheel now to tell ya the truth after seeing the car.
i still say stay with a light color to show off the curves. i know it may sound gay to some, but i think it can be pulled off. light light blue with a ton of fine metallic in it. not baby blue or tarheel blue, just a light sky blue, not the girly blue. i think gunmetal could compliment this color well if its the right shade.
im not so sure about the hockey stripe tho, they look great BUT you want this car to be unique and completely different than any other 4 gen out there, and i think hockey stripes are too common for this car. have some kinda stripe going down the side that resembles the dick harrell stripe, but not exactly, as you dont wanna copy that. have the stripe, cage, and wheel mesh pattern done in gunmetal.

Kyle.......you're uncanny.......I thought about the tar heel blue with black graphics.......only problem.....I don't want black interior. I really think a high quality medium grey leather with the grey top..........is very unquie for a 4th gen.
Have you seen the grey on the C6?
As far as the strip...I actually have designed a Z28....similar to your new badge but incorporates a stripe....can't show you here but I plan to tape off several diff graphics.....I'll get you to come with me one day and we can experiment

i think its pretty official that kyle is gay. ha, i'm joking man. i think the graphite/charcoal metallic stripe should be used. i also think that some type of candy color should be used for the entire car. graphite or charcoal metallic (or whatever color grey you want to use) goes with a lot of colors. i cant see the pics of the car since i'm at work but i'm thinking you shuold try to do something with a retro feel like some type of modern yenko stripe. i've also seen a camaro done with a single wide stripe down the middle like a gs corvette that looked good. so many ideas and colors.

terry, have you ever considered filling in and smoothing out the body line where the molding goes on the doors and fenders? i dont think ive ever seen it done on a 4th gen before, and not even sure if it would look right but its just a thought. this would mean you would probably need to mold the front bumper to the fenders and the rear bumper cover to the quarters as well so the whole car would have that line absent........just somethin to think about?
also about the color...i was looking at paint sample online, and i think dark candy or pearl red would be the BEST color to have accented by gunmetal, that will also show off the curves this thing has. maybe a few shades "redder" than the brandywine color you were thinkin about. its very notiable and will stick out in the crowd, and itll dance when the sun hits it!!!! also will go well with grey interior too.

this isnt a rat rod or a race car so it doesnt need to be satin or flat black! Ghost flames are cool but are played out now, a few years ago everyone was doin ghost flames. this car needs to be a head turner in every way, that means you need a paint job that is going to pop, and pull in that second look.

If you want to pull everyones eyes to your car out of a parking lot full of Fbodies, then you're going to have to have the color of paint that is a real attention grabber. Darker colors don't really grab attention. The dark maroon color of the hotrod pictured several post ago is beautiful, but its not going to snag someones attention instantly out of a lineup.

It has one limiting feature .....no windshield wipers.
As long as it has a relatively new windshield (no pitting) which I wouldn't imagine would be in a car of this caliber, treat it with PPG's Aquapel. You won't need wipers even when it is pouring down rain. Its like Rain-X times 50 literally. Its a commercial product but I should be ordering some for the shop here soon. Its only $20 an application and you'll never need more than one.

I don't know yet....I'm probaby going to cut the Sunoco hood too and see how it looks. Worse case I could patch it.
Looking for input.

personally......i think that given the curves that this car has....it needs something other than a flat stock hood. now, obviously its gonna be hard to find a hood that has curves to it that match the car, and at the same time look good with a hole cut for the blower.
heres what i think would look the best. get an extended cowl hood (extends into the windhsheild area and would cover the modded windshield and TB. it looks like the back half of the blower would fit under that hood with no issues. actually the entire blower would fit under that hood. instead of cutting the hood from the front of the blower all the way to the back, only cut the hole as needed. i.e. just cut it at the front with the blower sticks up high and where the belt and pulley is. that way, its kind of a teaser to someone when the hood is shut, and makes people wonder what lurks beneath!

anybody on here have a high rise hood I could borrow to test fit?

10-17-2009, 11:45 PM
you sure the extended sunoco wouldnt clear that? it looks as if it would from the pics but i cant say. i dont care for the stock cut hood. just my personal opinion but you know what they say everybody has one

To probably run the extended hood, you probably need a baby pulley on there and it still might not clear, so cutting is almost iminent. Maybe a six inch cowl hood that extends to the windshield would clear the pulley. How tall is the sunoco hood in the middle. Try this put stock hood on, measure how tall the blower sticks out of it, top of hood to top of blower, then measure the inside heighth of the sunoco hood then you will know if it clears or not. just an opinion

cowl hood wont look good at all. this car is too curvy for the sharp angles that the cowl hoods have IMO. i dont think it would look bad at all even if he did have to cut part of an extended sunoco hood just for the pulley or part of the blower. the viper hoods look great with te little teaser peep hole in then. or maybe find a way to put the viper hood scoop where the pull is on one of the aftermarket camaro hoods?!?
MIKE02TA
10-18-2009, 10:47 AM
How tall is the sunoco hood? Maybe not a cowl hood but something that tall! So he doesnt have to cut a hole in the hood, would look a whole lot better without a hole, in my opinion.

is the windsheild gonna fit ?
The EnforceR
10-18-2009, 01:06 PM
i think a hood that is big enough to fit the entire blower under it would be overkill for this car. tons of show cars...check out the prostreets, have holes cut nicely for the blowers.
MIKE02TA
10-18-2009, 02:30 PM
And they have stock or cowl hoods cut to show the entire blower not just a piece of it sticking out. And like I said just my opinion

Aint that the truth. So all I can say is trial and error

Yep....stock windshield with a big hole!!!!!
Sounds like trial and error might be the only option......or maybe no hood.

How would this Steel Gray (first photo) look on a widebody? Especially with this killer stance!

Cranberry color is awesome and would look great on a convertable, especially on a wide body, but might get bashed on this one but "IN MY OPINION" i would put a small pulley and close up the hole, would look 10X better.

if you had a good fiberglass man he could make that cowl fit with that pulley and no one would know the diff.

IMO a flat stock hood is too boring for that car....gotta have some curves to it to match everything else. sunoco hood all the way! i think if the entire blower is exposed...it looks too 90s/pro street type. one day next week ill ride down there with ya and check it out!
BluByU383
12-24-2009, 04:01 PM

How many Wipples poking out the hood........none that I've seen!!!!!!

What about a small cowl cut for the blower to rise slightly threw? I agree with Kyle stock on this car just want do. It needs to be in your face in every way shape and form.

with a cowl hood like the sunoco, the whole thing isnt gonna stick through. he only cut the part that would stick through. if he cut the hole big enough for the blower, the back of it wont rise above the surface of the hood, so itd be kinda pointless.
hes an idea........take the sunoco hood you have now.......leave the front of it cut out. then, cut a section out behind that and replace it with plexiglass. so the blower sticks out of the hood on the front, and rest of the blower will show through the plexiglass. hmmmmm.

Also thought about making an opening similar to a C6 hood. In other words add a little more rise to the Sonnco hood with an opening in the front......kind of like an SS hood.

What if I painted the car Steel Gray and airbrushed the Raspberry color around the fender flares and along the ridge in the Sonoco hood. The air brushed color would only be seen in bright sun conditions. Then paint a raspberry hockey strip.
What do you guys think?

thats exactly what im talking about, except just have the front of it cut so the high part of the pulley can stick through.
not sure about painting the flares and scoop. i think one body color....along with the grey top, will be classy looking, but can also be kinda in your face as well. also, didnt think about it at the time, but if you are still set on the grey top, the cyber gray color may not look right unless it matches it perfectly! if that artist would get on the ball, it would be esay to make a decision!!!
