OK guys....I need some help.
It's time to select an exhaust system for the Phatboy. It needs to sound great and look killer as well.....keep in mind the entire bottom of the car will be painted and cleared.
Also, I need to pick out some gauges. I was thinking of after market gauges.....kind of a race car looking set up.
Suggestions...pictures would be appreciated!!!!!!

03-11-2010, 05:11 PM
i like the idea of a custome setup with the gauges. and idk much about what sounds good on them cars and what doesnt. i would say do a exhaust that wont be seen. just leave outside of the car clean

If you don't go the custom Autometer route......this is way cool and you level of customization is endless.....you can also get matching HVAC stuff for it too..

For exhaust...go crazy with it. Its gonna be seen at shows if you use mirrors under the car, so make it stainless. Shoot.....stainless 4 inch with magnaflow, and fina a way to step it back down and make it work with the CME....the big single CME tip. That is assuming you are still ussing CME.
I think this looks dumb on other cars, but yours will be wild enough to pull it off...

Danny....thanks...Bruce has been extremely busy the last 3 months so we haven't made much progress......but that's about to change. He wants to mock up the exhaust so once it goes to paint we won't have to make any new cuts etc.
Bruce kinda likes the Magna Flow mufflers.
What other mufflers sound good but can fit in a small space? Going to try to put true duals.....over the axle may prevent dropping the stance....don't know yet. Remember this thing has air ride...so I want to get it low.

3 inch true duals with Magnaflow bullets. As you said...over the axle may not work with the air ride and low stance. Go UNDER the axle (like my old setup and also the 03-04 Cobras). You can have collectors put under the axle so you can unbolt it if the rearend needs to come down. Have it all polished stainless. I always LOVED how the termy Cobras look from the rear with the tailpipes running under the axle. Imagine that but in a low and wide Fbody!

the only reason you can go under on a cobra is because of the IRS, when you swap to a stick axle you have to go back to over the axle tubes... then again we can get away with 3" over the axle no problem :)

05-19-2010, 08:05 AM

See thread # 279.....already ordered the tips and valence.........due to clearence issue when lowering the car (air ride).. I decided to go with a single 4" from the y pipe over the axle then split into two chambered exhaust to the CME.
Do you guys like a "smoothed" CME valence or just leave the recessed body line?

Terry, I just read this entire thread, and came to a few conclusions. This is going to be the badest F-Body ever, and you have too much money to spend on your cars. With that said, WILL you be adopting in the near future ? Keep up the good work, Dean.
BluByU383
08-08-2010, 08:17 PM
Dean, I hope you're right on the "baddess FBody" part.......and the wife has come to the same conclusion about me spending too much money on cars.
I hear it everytime I want to go to a car event. This may be my last project......so it's got to be special...lol.
I'm struggling with the interior......I have few ideas but I haven't got the theme nailed down yet. The really high end show cars are fiberglassing everything.....which doesn't fit this car.....but I have to compete with the "flashy" themes on other cars to get the exposure, respect etc.
Its a tuff balance.....in the end I'll build what I want...regardless.

i dont like the polished metal cirlces in the seats. i like the design just not the metal rings
Exactly what I was thinking on the seats. The console looks good. Also like the graphics from the 2nd pic.

Yea....the metal rings just don't do it for me either. I like the overall look of the interior.....looks muscle car ish.

Notice that the last pic has the Eldlebrock covers.......we'll grind it off and add something like "Blown 427LSX" or something.

Thanks for the offer.......but we're going to put it completely together and test drive it a week or so.....then paint it......then put the interior in it.
Hope to test drive it before Christmas.

Yes, but look at the money you could save by having your own metal fabricator in the family!!!

here's this biggest challange remaining on the Phatboy......the M9 rearend hits the fuel tank and the ladder bar hits the bottom. Everthing starts to interfer with lowering the rear.....things stop about 2-3 inches from the bump stops. The size of the M9 and the large shockwaves make for a very tight fit.
This will be a fairly costly fix....but to me getting the car as low as possible makes or breaks the car. The objective is to get about half of the sidewall of the tire inside the wheel well.

I don't know ........the convertible top takes up a lot of the trunk space.

Does the fourthgen vert not leave the rear well like the thirdgens? You could always build a cell to fit that area.
