Ok, so a few of you have privately asked me for private forums, and a couple have publicly done so, so let's get it all out in the open.
Why do you want private forums?
The consensus so far seems to be to keep the trouble makers and shit talkers out of your threads.
Well, one tool is moderation. We have moderators for that. You have them, and you have me. I am here throughout the day, and I'm trying my best to keep a close eye on the site to stay on top of what's going on.
If your moderator(s) aren't handling it, and I'm not seeing it, report the post and I WILL handle it. I am not ashamed to whip out the ban stick on someone. I will put someone on leave for a few days, or permanently if need be if they can't act right.
I do not want to run around here flexing muscles, but this is my site and when it comes right down to it what I say goes and I do NOT want this place to fall apart. So if shit is going down that doesn't need to, PLEASE let me know so I can handle it. Send me a PM, use the report post tool, something. No one has to know it was you that told me.
Bunch of new asshole users recently just here to talk shit?
All new users must be approved by a Moderator, Super Moderator, Admin, or Super Admin. No Approval, no posting plain and simple. I have not approved a single user since putting that policy into effect, I have not had the chance. Dave has been handling that so far, as he seems to know many of them.
What would it take to get private forums?
Basically it would take paying memberships by the users. I could create a forum or two for the paying members, you could then subscribe to the site and have access to those forums for xx amount of time.
What are some of the pro's and con's?
Pro: You'd have your 'private' area.... for a while. Your area would only be visible to your members, and no one would ever know you were posting in there.
Con: If you can join it, so can they. The subscription system here works such that I have no control over who can join and who cannot. If asshole #1 wants to join the UFB membership, then I can't stop him. I might be able to kick him out of it after the fact and refund his money, but I can't stop him from joining and lurking in your forum. And you'd never know he was there if he never posted.
Pro: It would cut down on your shit talking...
Con: It would also cut down on some of the lively conversation too. Admit it, some of the really lively threads on here are because of the little trash talking that goes on. Don't get me wrong, I'm not supporting it, I DESPISE full out disrespectful trash talk, but there's nothing wrong with a little friendly smack talk now and then.
How would it affect the site?
It could severely affect the site by taking most of the traffic out of the public view and virtually killing the site. Granted the site would still be here, and it would be doing just fine, because you guys would be paying members, and you'd be generating traffic and all, but if you're not posting out in the public eye where people can interract with you like you are now, then it would appear that the site is dead.

Right, he does post some nonsense, and he does grate on some nerves (including mine at times), but he did make a point.
It would be somewhat hypocritical to have a 'members only' forum to keep shit talkers out, when some of those members are shit talkers themselves.
Didn't your username used to be cjg454ss? And didn't you used to start a lot of shit with another user in his threads, and he in yours?
If I have the wrong person, I apologize.
Let's stay on topic folks...

We have email trains, guess the private folks dont have email accts they could use?
that would keep it private, no lurkers to join, cut and paste, etc and then it get into the public eyes or be sent via PMs or emails.
This happens, why do you think there is a FGM site now, (go check out www.scfyb.com now)....which the inner circle of CHO doesnt like but ready stuff over there.
Just know that since these jerks have come over, there has been a ton more traffic, seems like if the jerks were ignored there would be less jerks b/c they would get bored. But it all feeds on itself.

Board sponsers enjoy jerks that cause traffic! I think there is an ignore fuction on here, people could always put crumbie, myself, nick, kyle and other trouble makers are their ignore list. But they wont, because they want to see what we have to say.

the funny part about this is that everyone seems to get along in public....the fact that when they get behind a screen there head gets bigger and they feel that they are better than everyone else because of what the have or what they say they have ....I know I say stuff to tim about racing and all but both of us understand that in all in good fun.....the fact that people get tore up about something posted on the internet is stupid.....if you don't like it don't read it, just skip to the next thread.....I think the drama is fun to read if you don't let it go to your head and get mad.....so without drama the board would be dead because let me truthful, this is not an informative board or everyone would not say "search ls1tech".... this section was started a few years back for the to communicate so why not used it for that instead of trying to cut off other car guys

I'm with you, if grown men can't handle a little smack talk then they shouldn't be on the internet.
Cars and smack talk go hand in hand with each other; it won't be avoided.
Smack talk is the reason they close threads, or atleast what I've seen.

I just think you guys should be a little more leniant with the smack talking and drama.
I mean, think of it as watching tv.
Would you sit through 2 hours of a movie where everyone got along and was happy and cheerful with each other? HELL NO.
Drama and smack talking keeps EVERY board on the internet interesting.
IMO of course.

lenient? Look at the history of the site. Ask the members how lenient we've been.
It's only recently that the members have asked for someone to step in, and that I've seen things start to take a negative turn where I've felt the need to step in more.

I'm with BJ on this. Its ok to talk smack every so often but once someone pushes a few buttons, it gets out of hand and its got out of hand ALOT here lately. I'm up for it to stay public b/c we have got a few new guys here latley and i like to see UFB grow. BUT on the other hand i'd like to see it private b/c it would keep the shit talkers/trouble makers AKA: FastGMers out. I'm bias...

I wasnt trying to be "dirty" if you meant me. I just think "trolls" i.e people who come on here and read through other peoples posts and get all in peoples buisness or what not only to interject when they want to stir the drama pot are a prime reason to make it private.Im not doing any name calling or finger pointing Im rather new to this site and Im sure the mods know exactly type people im referring too.I mean if you can be civil and respectfull so be it but if you dont contribute to the site or converse with people on it unless its to start bs and lurk around reading other peoples posts like a nosey middle school girlfriend then keep your ass on the "other" sites. There are people on here Ive known for quite sometime and some that Im just meeting. For the just of it all seem pretty cool.Everything has a place and I just hope CHO doesnt end up another one of "those" places...my .02
I wasnt refering to the Green bean either was jk about troll thing toward him because he said said "trust me been here longer"..Dont even know him but seems like a funny guy just wanted to add that because it kinda sparked this post

Without the 'trolling' how would Hawks known that the upstate wanted a dyno day?

there is a difference between looking through forums and searching specific peoples posts/threads. I mean hell its a forum its here to awnser questions. I wasnt trying to imply being that there is something wrong with reading through forums in any way like i stated.I wouldnt think Hawks need troll know a bunch of car enthusiasts would want a dyno day lol might have to troll to realize people want them to stop busting heads on prices though.Again not talking shit about Hawks just stating the fact seems thats brought up more times than dyno day in reference to the company...

These posts feed back into my original post I believe about the private forum being hidden from view so no one would know what was going on.
However, it does ad the extra twist in that Hawk's wouldn't have been able to see that there might have been draw for a dyno day, and Shon might not have known that he wanted to sponsor the site because there wouldn't be much visible traffic.

True b/c I normally join a board and see how many new posts and threads are started over the coarse of time to determine if there is enough traffic to put my money into it. To sell the board, there has to be traffic and you might think that vendors might not want negative traffic, hey it's traffic and exposure. Whether you like a product I put out, as long as there is discussion about it, 'I am on your mind' and that is what we want....
Take this discussion for one, before a month ago, did you think of CHO much...or was it a thing that you said, oh I got a few minutes, wonder what is going on....but now, you can tell, people are checking this board and typing nonstop, I know this b/c I am one of them, I would check once a week or so, but now, more often than FGM...
Shon might not have known that he wanted to sponsor the site because there wouldn't be much visible traffic.

Yeah Im not trying to argue the fact either way Herron. You and LW both made valid points from buisness p.o.v and overall how a forum works. How about if there was a way to just disable the trolling.Like if you cant just search all one persons threads or what not?!?! I mean because I feel that is kind of the open door for the sh!t talkers. I mean they search someones posts till they find a point to interject with some drama
