Finally got to dyno and tune my GTO today since I added a set of AI heads. Results were way better than I expected.

For those that don't know, the car is a 2005 GTO A4. Mods are:

Flowtech 232/236 cam
Kook's 1 7/8 headers, no cats, Magnaflow catback
Advanced Induction ported stock 243 heads (still with stock valves)
FAST 90mm intake
Yank SS3600 converter
ASP underdrive pulley
ported stock TB
3.91 gears

Can't wait to get a chance to run it at the track!

the 435# was prior to the CNC Heads.

Very nice numbers and even more nice that they are through a 3.91 geared A4. This should result in some sick track times. Not too bad on mid range power either.

Thanks, hooking up will be a problem as it was already before the heads. I use 26x10-15 ET Drag slicks and still can't hook at Greer on a Thurs. Time for some adjustable front struts for a start...

75rwhp with a head swap that flow 300cfm seem fishy. was that a single run or the best of a couple pulls? where was this dyno? not to bash, but if that was a m6 you would of picked up 50rwhp more.

LOL, I think I made 21 pulls yesterday as I was doing the tuning on the car. This was at Rock's shop (JR Racing) and fwiw cars have run pretty much within 1-2 hp of what they ran at Napalm etc.

The 503 rwhp pull was one I did just for kicks with the belts off the car, so the graph that Shon put up was not actually a perfect comparison because I had belts on for that cam only pull and it was in MAF mode back then. But at any rate, I know some will argue against making a pull like that, but why not if you've got the dyno time?? :D It sure does make me consider getting an electric water pump so I can make some passes like that at the track now that I know how much it's worth!

I also switched to speed density tuning yesterday--not on purpose but because I ran into a problem with my MAF sensor. I think I'll run the speed density tune for a while--at least until I get my dry nitrous kit. But no need for the kit now because I've got to do some suspension changes in order to get this thing hooked up. Already had trouble hooking in the previous cam-only setup with 26x10-15 ET drags.

This graph below shows that pulling the belt was worth 16 hp & 10 ft-lbs tq(top line), middle line was with the belt in place, and the bottom line was the cam only pull from Napalm:

Thanks Kyle! I think it's going to take a while before I see the full potential of this setup, but I'll get there. As stated I have to address the suspension, would like to shed some weight, and I also don't know that this tranny will take shifts over 6500 for very long. I shift at 6500 as it sits, but sort of afraid to take it any higher even though you can see I ran it up there to near 7k on the dyno. :eek: It is a 4L65E, but time to start looking at some built 65E's from performabuilt...

Jeff those Numbers are more than impressive. I have been around alot of LS based motors,dynos and this numbers still have me scratchin my head :think:

Chris, you know there is more to a head than peak flow numbers, I know you know that. And that is one of AI's focus, making the flow numbers where it counts and if you look it works and the cars are more fun on the street like that and will be very competitive on the track/street if not win everytime.

ALSO: You know how important tuning is. I would get updates thru out the day as tuning was being done and each return phone call the numbers were getting bigger and bigger.

And the belt off thing, we can do that all the time at the track, worth a tenth at least and having an EWP on the LS1 makes it even easier, and on the LT1 doesnt matter.

But 480-500 is still impressive and with a 23x/23x cam that is under .600 lift on a 113 thru an A4/SS3600/3.91 gear is dang good. And driving it every day!

it doesnt add up to me still, chris Ts 402 with dart heads huge cam and more cubes make 500-540rwhp thru an m6, he can chime in and let you know his numbers. the goat made 500rwhp thru an auto w/ stall. the stall steals about 30-40rwhp safely id say. so with an m6 youd make roughyl 530rwhp with a smaller cam, less cubes, stock cncd heads. thats what i dont get. either way, do did it, nice car, great numbers. im not bashing by any means.

It's not always about getting the parts at the bottom of the page.

Herron Performance is always maximizing the customers set ups we have proved it on more than one occasion!
Yellow GTO pulled 400 to the wheels Sat as well with the LS1 CNC'd heads with some ignition issues.

There are many other people reading these threads that might be in the market, its all good.

5.7 with STOCK CAM.

And all the cars HP has messed with have started out as stock cars and we go from there with bolt ons and then move to H/Cs, just like everyone else. Not sure where you think the cars were bought like this, the wrenches are being turned by owners and who ever they can recruit to get it done.
Jeff paid for the cam install due to many factors but it was nothing he could not do himself.

possibly, i put a turbo 400 in it this past weekend and new garden hose fuel system. if my prostars are here before thursday then yea we can run. if not than possibly the following, im not knocking jeffs car. just saying the original hp seemed fishy, now i know the belts were off it makes more sense.

also crumbie i dont have a builder, im seeing this one through from start to finish, i was just mentioning that bruce has built some big cars lately and they are showing up.

i dont think chris t ever ran a full pass. he ran david before he got his new intake and david was 1 car ahead at the most to about 140. 402 vs david and 150shot. the other ss i didnt even know about until last week. heard it made 480rwhp and 750-800rwhp on spray, thats all i know. i dont how true the numbers are but thats all i got guys.

What you didn't understand was a typo. Chris makes them all the time. Knowing that he built his setup himself, I knew that he was talking about Bruce H. building the other cars mentioned, and not his own. I can see how that post got easily misconstrued though.

What kind of MPG did the GTO get stock? Do they have the same rear as F-bodys or did they put something better in? Looks like you could do a head swap with the motor in the car how the firewall is and it not be a PITA, that true? My wife wants something bigger, I would consider trading my truck on one and driving her car daily.

You might pick up more if you're coming from a stock 241 casting head to a worked a Herron/AI 243 head. And yanking the belt. LOL. Otherwise it'll be around 50 rwhp.

btw, has anyone realized that jeff had the converter locked during the dyno pull? the fact that its a 3600 or whatever rpm stall makes no difference... port velocity WITH volume is what matters... who gives a fuck if it flows 380cfm if the air is flowing at 1/2 of what it would at 300cfm...

and tadpoles car has a shitload of money in it for what it is... its got those same shitty stock dart pro1's that gayry had on his car... yes it made 515hp or whatever it was but didnt that end up costing him seomthing like 7800 bucks?

yeah the car is quick but i have to give bruce credit... hes a helluva salesman to convince a group of people to pay him how much he wants for his services... hats off to him for that.

ULOST has that car thats go like a 2.76 upper and 8lb lower or something isnt it... got some kinda crazy ass cold air intake on it tho. i bet he would give mofobucs a run for his money.

you should care because ive got an inside line on a new american muscle based magazine and happen to know one of the photographers who will be featured in it... there are some nice cars on here but even being a lurking on my own i wouldnt want to help most with that... the turbo car is cool and ive talked to the owner before back when it was a nitrous only and i can see that the little cockyness that he had then has grown with his idea of as how bad ass his car is... its that way with everyone on here...

for the most part this place is EXACTLY like Upstate Mustang Club... if you arent part of a core cliqe then you arent telling the truth and youre full of shit and blah blah blah... on the other hand there are car guys who just like the cars... thats cody and kyle and all of them, sorry i dont know everyones names, and they are all cool. If you're cool with me im up for helping people out when i can... if its helping someone find a part or find out about a part or if its shooting their car for free and hooking someone up with shots that look better than most of the shit i see in domestic magazines then so be it... but if you're a douche... then i'll be a douche right back...

and the only place ive seen worse than this is either Upstate Mustang Club or Honda-Tech...

and for what its worth i grew up around an 86 Fiero 2m6, a 78 Firebird with a TH350 and a 2 barrel 350 and then the 83 Recaro T/A that i learened to drive in... so im an old f-body fan... just not a fan of most of the owners it seems... happens to be the same way with the mustang too haha.


oh and i guessed 500hp with a low end guess of 485... Advanced Induction heads are FTW... Jeff's car has proven that and Russ's car has proven that...

As Shon already mentioned, it's not always about the peak flow numbers. If you looked at the heads before I put them, you may be surprised at some of the areas that are not even touched. It's because Phil knows what works and what doesn't.

It's all about the right combination. Ed Curtis at Flowtech and Phil at AI both know what they are doing when it comes to the LS-series motors.

I did all my work on this last project too, but my parts still had to come from somewhere (thanks HP)! Let me just say that Shon has come through every time I've needed something, and often times it's something I needed in a hurry. You won't get any better service!

True, the only thing I didn't do was the cam. At the time you could not get that cam except to have it installed by Tri-Star in ATL. But now you can just call up Ed at Flowtech and tell him you want the "Tiger Shark" cam. :)

I'm proud to say I've done everything else on the car myself, all the way down to the tuning.

My wife wants something bigger, I would consider trading my truck on one and driving her car daily.

It got 17 city, driving to/from work, and I think 22-24 on the highway. M6's have the big advantage here. Russ has gotten as much as 31 mpg highway on my tune. :)
