First Time Running At A Strip [Archive]

i have never raced at the strip so other then watching pinks, thats the most action i know of drag racing, at the line vs a mustang gt i saw so many lights i didnt know which to take off at the guy told me to hit it lol mustang took off befor me. 1 st gear i started spinning tires i had to throw it into 2nd then i passed the mustang in 2nd bc i had to catch up took him in third pulled him like 3 cars. my # dont look to great but idk first time..

Just because tires start spinning doesn't mean you have to shift right away.
That'll create the car to bog and you'll be worse off than if you would've just left it in first.

Next time, don't slam the throttle right off the line. When you are barely rolling and the tires aren't spinning, slowly roll down on the throttle and you shouldn't have a problem with spinning tires anymore. Then after 1st gear, don't take your foot off the hammer.

i think i could have gotten 9.5 or better if i didnt spin so much and reaction would have been better. and i changed to 2nd to soon also.

like others said, dont freak out on wheel spin and shift already. keep it straight, ride it out and get up to speed before ya shift it. that car is plenty capable of low low 9's, youll get there.

when i had a 2.93 upper pullie and 6lb lower pullie(450rwhp 550rwtq), i ran 7.95 on dr' sand on shitty street tires i went 8.1 that was the first time i have ever been to the drag strip.

but that was with pullies ..right ? ..7.95 and a 8.1 are close times even with street tires you get a good launch and you could have went the 7.9x .. 450rwhp is nowhere close to stock ..which is my point ..who has a totally stock cobra that runs 8.1 ?

I think that has something to do with the shifter. I never missed a gear in the cobra.

yea i missed when your trans was screwed so that wasnt your fault i rarely have ever missed a gear i can count on one hand how many times i have in my life but your trans was screwed. does it work better now? let me know when you get it back from the body shop ill be ready to start on yours soon

Its in my garage.I havent gotten to drive it except when i pulled it in the garage. Brian didnt bleed the clutch yet, he said he can after i decide what im gonna do about the rearend. I want to go ahead and get the nitrous hooked up, new window motors, and window regulator in because in just waiting to see if my dad buys me a 9inch for christmas if not im gonna buy one sometime in january.
O yea, i was talking to Brian about the window regulator and he said he dont think that it is possiable to change the window regulator without scratching the tint. He said he changed 406maibu and they got his window in a couple of spots.

I have had the window motors replaced twice. Now the driver side is going bad and the regulator and motor is bad on the passanger side.

in the 3 f-bodies ive owned ive replaced one or both of the window motors/regulators no less than 5-7 separate times they are horrible.

i hate to say it but 8.1s are not that fast. cobras will make around 370 rwhp and that is plenty for low 8s all depends on who is drivin.

not sure if anyone knows who brad meadows is on here well i know crumbie does and a few others but his stock ass 302 bone stock engine. car had a gear after market upper and lower control arms and a few other odds and ends and was running 7.9s but then again he is a driver. lol by the way that same stock ass 302 went 6.9s on spray. shitty ford lol

its codys brothers cobra, cody drives a 03 white that use to be kyles,from whay cody says hes pushing 514 to the wheels, but yea man the mistic ran 8.1. i dont hang wit them but i dont think he's stock tho. very fast car. i met them at sburg one night. its a mistic cobra, the color changes real cool. heres a vid of the the white cobra that pushes 500s, not sure but he lost to a honda...

the only thing a dyno is good for is to see improvements from tuning and modifying things. yea, it gives you a good idea of what a certain car may do at the track IF the car is driven and is set up to run............and those are always BIG BIG ifs with al the cars around here.

HAS, is the key word. maybe at top dead center with the spray bar. On a dyno jet with the spraybar it might would put down 450. and im not downing the car in any way just stating my opnion.

the kenne belle are real nice super chargers, whats kind of super chagers do the 03, 04 cobra come with? is it the same the kenne belle?

Its the same style supercharger.(root style) They make a varity of different superchargers from kenne bell the old ones were 2.2L,2.4L the newer ones are the big bore 2.6L,2.8L the 2.6L are rated at like 20-25 psi that is what i had on mine, if you are gonna go big they reccomend the 2.8.

roots, twin screw. based on the same thing. both are positive displacement blowers. they have instant boost. roots are called that due to the man that created them. twin screws are more efficiency and don't create as much heat as a heaton. and we all know the cooling you can get the air in the engine the better

positive displacement blowers are awesome as hell on ls base engines i was watchin a video the other day of a ss trailblazer with heads cam and a magnacharger on it sweet i tell ya. they just cost to much and when you spend that kind of money you are better off getting a turbo that doesnt use hp to make hp like superchargers

completely stock 5.0L motor (heads/cam/intake) went 7.90s on motah. and iirc, right before he sold it, he pretty much stripped all the boltons off the car and clicked off a low, low 8 on some sportsman pros.

and my pitiful turd has been in the 8's so any stock ls1/lt1 should run that easy! :alcohol:

Ed went 9.2x at greer a couple weeks ago in his new LT1 Z28 with 2.73 gears and its still got a paper filter in it. Maybe at Shadyside it could have been a 9.0-9.1

Actually it was just LT1. I think its possible for a LS1 w/ 2.73's to get into the 8's.
