I agree. Anyone that has ever run at any of the drag strips around here will agree that you dont get much room to slow down. Throw a High MPH car at that and a chute is a wise choice.

I've heard the announcer at ShadySide say that you don't need a chute unless you are going at least 145mph when you cross the line. The drag cars don't top the hill if they pop the chute going slower than that.

I really dont think your gonna need a chute for an 1/8 mile just invest in better breaks. All the times i been to the track i have only seen a chute come out once or twice.

im sure you dont need a chute at shady side cause its shady side go to any nhra track and you better be runnin with a chute if over 150 in the 1/4 or you will be out until you have the proper equipment

a chute? lol how about a solid axle, a heavy cobra will need a little more than 1000 rwhp to trap 150 in the 1/4, not sure on the weight of your setup, but with driver at 200lbs, a cage, procharger, misc additional parts. 3900-4000 lbs is probably close to your race weight. that would take 1050rwhp to do 150mph. not to rain on the parade, but 1000-1100rwhp is moving, but still a chute would look sweet and be very intimidating.

i think someone is being a little too optimistic about their setup if they are only racing in the 1/8th, ive seen plenty of cars at shadyside run in the low 4's and not pull out the laundry.

Quote of the year^^^ . all the hp in the world means nothing if you cant get it to hook down the track where it counts.

this tranny wont make it, once i see where the turbo starts making boost ill get a stall for to optimize that. im thinking t400 or powerglide with a 9 inch, some time next summer

100 shot. it was runnin 7.55's all day on motor once we got the bugs worked out of it (at shadyside, since greer would only hook if you wasted half your tires). should have been a tad bit better than 7.25 but it was blowing through converters like there was no tomorrow (cheap converters, no balloon plate :nono:) can't wait to see what it'll run with the new setup.

Sounds like a plan. Im shooting for low 7s to high 6s when i get back out there when everything is done . I have a feeling im gonna have to get a roll bar. anyone know what would be a good one that would work for a kids seat in the back ?

pvc from lowes. thats what i would do, and put padding around it. if they see its not a real bar, all they can do is tell yo to get a real one.

if your real fast the pvc will not work at greer .some guy cane over and acted like he just wanted to talk and pulled on my friend kens (83 black vert) to see if the car would shake lol

I thought about that. Isnt there a 2 point roll bar or something like that you can get that just goes across the t-tops? I just dont want a 6 point or anything all crazy like that . i will mostly run at wareshoals since to me i hook better there. I think the owner told me a roll bar would work.

if you wanna have your kids in the back, and them be safe......a roll bar could hurt them. ive heard stories of people getting bad head injuries from hittin their head on the roll bar during wrecks. unless you just wanna strap helmets on your kids everytime they rid ein the car, which would be stewppidd

if you run better than 7.59 you have to have a roll bar. i think its 4 point.

There is a nice 4 point in a buddy of mine's 2000 SS. His name is Gabe and it is a bad ass setup. It has a removable cross bar that goes from one side of the sail panel to the other. It just comes out with 2 allen head bolts.

I think wareshoals is 7.50s. I ran that letting out in top of 3rd and coasting at 73 mph with my old cam lol. so im sure im gonna be needing one since now i have a bigger cam and skinnes for i wont have to let out .

im not sure about wareshoals, i just know when i ran at greer the first 7.50 pass i made they stopped me at the end of the track and told me i couldnt run anymore till we got a roll bar. i asked what the cutoff was and they said 7.59.

so you just roll through the lights, stop, and then just work on geting a higher trap speed. 9.50 @92 mph FTW
WhiteIrocZ
09-02-2008, 10:26 PM
Might as well run on the streets from a roll if your gonna do that. Cheating the safety rules and running a low e.t. with a high mph without a cage isn't gonna save you if you wreck on the top end at 100 mph.

LOL, like Chris did when he raced the GT500 that night. 8.0 @ 100mph

true, but the car gets more "interesting" to handle for every tenth. gotta have a cutoff somewhere. altho i have to say i rode in a 5.9-6.0 second car, and that makes low 7's feel like your in the slow lane

It honestly should be a matter of mph and not e.t. anyway, but I guess the people who make the rules at local tracks aren't known as the brightest crayons in the box.

thats a good point, since there are some people running 7.50's at 85ish and some of the imports are running 7.50's in the high 90's or low tripple digits. and i dont think its the local tracks that make the rules, i think most of them simply go by nhra standards.

my point exactly. if you have 2 cars running 7.60......one a big stalled auto trapping 90 mph, the other a 5 speed turbo car that traps a good bit higher say 96 mph....chances are the one moving faster, not quicker, is gonna have more damage. that is of course, all things remaing constant and all that, but yall get the idea

but that being said the one with a lower trap speed is going to be much harder to handle off the line since its going to make its power down low. tho a wreck at lower speeds wont be nearly as detrimental. guess it depends how ya look at it. either way if you trap close to or at 100 a roll cage is a must.
