Ok Shawn I used H serious Rod and Main bearings on my motors. Summit has em and SDPC or TSP.
MrDavid
07-06-2008, 04:44 PM
only going with a LS6 cam? How much power are you looking to make again?
Camaroslpss
07-06-2008, 06:08 PM
just going with that cam because the price was right. Later on im going to upgrade to the MS4. After i get everything else in line

07-06-2008, 11:25 PM
i know it looks like youre pretty set on that cam, but man itd be foolish to go with somethin so small when for prob $100 more you can geta NICE cam. i bought my cam for $250 shipped and they can be had for cheaper than that! but its your build and you can do what ya want, but itll save ya an 8 hour job down the road. if youre not doing the cam, at LEAST go ahead and put your dual springs in that are required with an MS4, thats the hardest part of he cam swap since half the motor is under the cowl.
LTBlackBird
07-07-2008, 02:32 AM
yea, the cam is about $250, but then you need the pushrods and valve springs which is where the money adds up. depending on the heads, that cam can make around 350-370 to the tires, thats with at the very least LS6 heads though that can be found for somewhat cheap. And with the bottom end you can put a nice 200 shot of the go go juice on it :)
LTBlackBird
07-07-2008, 02:41 AM
hell, better yet since you're going to have a forged stock cube high compression motor, go get a custom nitrous cam. Can run the juice and make great power, just not a big fan of the MS series but just my opinion.

I definitely fall in the diff. budgets category
MrDavid

Why yes it is. Its a nice 224/224 that will make at least 390rwhp with a good tune.

07-08-2008, 09:10 PM
:Camaro: thats the cam i would buy !!!
Camaroslpss
07-09-2008, 07:20 PM
Whats the asking price???
MrDavid
07-09-2008, 08:16 PM
I need to get $250 for it. I haven't posted it on LS1tech yet because I have yet to take any pics of any of the things I am going to sell. I looked in the WTB section and found a couple of guys who are looking for a mild-moderate cam. I PM'ed one guy but he is wanting a really small cam and said it was too big for him. I'll get to it this weekend if no one wants it around here.
Camaroslpss
07-09-2008, 08:24 PM
I would but dont really have the funds right now. All my engine and parts are at the machine shop now. Waiting to see the bill!!

07-09-2008, 08:53 PM
I really need the lifters you bought from Gary. I'll trade you the cam and you can pay the difference. Does that help?

Was something wrong with your stock lifters SLPSS? If not, I would sell the LS7's and buy the cam personally. 224/224 FTW.

Nothing other than the fact that they had 133,000 miles on them.
01BlackBird
07-10-2008, 03:02 PM
just buy some stock lifters cheap and trade david the lifters plus cash for the cam. you will regret not doin it now and having to go through a cam swap again in the future
Camaroslpss
07-10-2008, 03:12 PM
I plan on getting a different cam in a couple of months so ill will end up having to buy different lifters anyways. The only reason im putting the Ls6 is because the price was right and its better than the stock one that i had.

no you don't , just your pushrods and valve springs with a cam change , not lifters ...

Why is everyone so hell bent on deciding Shawns build for him? Upgrading lifters is necessary at this point of his build. It is easier to change a cam than to pull heads down the road to change the lifters out when they collapse. His factory LS1 lifters have over 120k onem.
MadMike 97 Z28
07-10-2008, 06:31 PM
i think tim is saying its not as necessary as spings and pushrods but, I agree with you if they have alot of miles on them it would probably be a good idea to change them. although i didn't change mine.
MrDavid
07-10-2008, 06:43 PM
Doesn't matter now anyways. My new LS7 lifters will be here tomorrow.

07-11-2008, 03:52 PM
when doing lifters on an LS1, any time you have the opportunity to i would, defintely replace lifters man, they're important and you'll have the heads off anyways
Camaroslpss
07-11-2008, 04:22 PM
Im definitely going too. Hopefully i can get my old block back because i just found out today that it was an LS6 block rather than and lS1 :headwall:
MrDavid
07-11-2008, 05:45 PM
but I thought you said it was pretty scarred up? Didn't you say something like "the machine shop would have to bore it .40 over" ??
Camaroslpss
07-11-2008, 05:51 PM
yea it was. i figured if i get it back. later on down the road i can have it sleeved and itll be will be fine. Or should i not even worry about it??

07-11-2008, 06:44 PM
Yea, i'd probably get it back. Where is it now?

Because we like to hear a nice bumpstick in every ls1 we see. I would agree, lifters over a cam any day especially with that many miles on them.

Started putting the motor together Sunday night. Were working a couple hours a night on it. In the last two nights we set the cam, the crank and have four of the rods and pistons in place. Hopefully we can finish it up weds night. Ill post the pics up weds night since i kinda left my camera at his house. Does anyone have that "Special" tool for aligning the oil pan???
MrDavid
07-22-2008, 05:23 AM
Gary seems to have most of the speciality tools.
NEMESISVETTE
07-22-2008, 06:02 AM
the way to line the oil pan up is to put the front cover on with the the bolts only a few threads ( dont tighten yet) same for the rear cover. Put RTV sealant on the 4 corners . then set the oil pan on . tighten it up using the proper sequence and torqe. Then and only then tighten and torqe the rear and front covers. I work 12 hours today shawn but you can text me and I will walk you threw it :) sounds like your doing well

07-22-2008, 06:29 AM

I should be able to post the pics Sunday night. We were gonna finish it Wed night but when i got out of work, someone had broken into my other car and stole my cd player  I got out of work at 6 and didnt end up leaving till 8. It took sptbg county an hour to get there and an hour for paperwork. Unfortunately the guy helping me build my motor was heading for Tennessee Thurs. So i have to wait till Sunday when he gets back!!!

Isn't it good to know our tax dollars are hard at work paying Spartanburg's finest? Sorry to hear that Shawn. Keep your head up man, I know it sucks. My first week at Ft. Bragg, someone broke into my blazer and stole my entire system and did $1100 worth of damage. In the end insurance took car of it, but it sure does suck waiting on a check.
