2 cylinder (rc-51) vs your average 600 (r6 or gsxr 600)

how do these driving experiences compare

iv only ever ridden a dirtbike

from what I know v twins are more low end power and more torquey than an inline 4 inline 4's have more topend from what I know v-twins are wheelie monsters please correct me if I am wrong

Pretty much agree with that. Not a mechanic but have assisted when choppers were being built (HA! assisting means asking stupid questions while watching and occasionally handing tools & parts to mechanic)
But... what the mechanics told me was V-twin = low end torque. Multi-cyl especially with overhead cams rev faster and accellerate harder as they approach mid to higher rpm's
But I was always told that displacement under normal conditions makes up for a world of things all else being equal. Example: I got to ride a custom built twin cylinder chopper that had been bored to the max and it at least felt as fast as a sport bike. Of course it didn't handle that well around corners since it was raked out, extended, and had a springer front end. so....my little ride was more of a run fast in a straight line and brake really hard before the corners.

To answer the question....

You cannot really compare an RC51 to an inline 600. Two totally different machines....

The RC51 is not for the faint @ heart. It's TQ will lowside you quicker than a virgin's first orgasm if you're not careful in the twisties. On that same note the TQ and throttle response is insane and can be deadly usefull when throttling out of a turn. The RC is heavy, but it's linear power curve makes it not feel like it. A deadly track bike, but equally deadly in the street ESPECIALLY stoplight to stoplight against the inlines.

A 600 is a much more flickable bike. Lighter to whip around the turns, and MUCH MUCH more user friendly. More forgiving, and better suited for a beginner. On the track, it would be anybody's game....basically whoever the better rider is. 600's lack TQ, so they're really no fun for the street without a steep sprocket setup, which can affect top end pull. 600cc bikes are great beginner bikes, and great track bikes.

It would depend on your riding skill which bike i'd recommend. The RC is not for a beginner, but overall the best all-around bike in comparison to an inline 600.

How about a recomendation? I have been looking at katana's because of the riding position. I am wondering if there is something else out there I should maybe look into with a similiar touring friendly yet still sporty style? It will still yet be a while as my house has eaten my bike fund but i want the next bike I buy to keep me happy for a good while. If it helps the bike from the past i enjoyed and rode the most was my Kawasaki EX 500. It was also the fastest of my whopping two bikes I have owned. The other being a 78 GS 500. (it was a freebie)

Okay I bought a bike from a shop and got ripped off. I was told it was an 05 model etc...I buy the bike (dirt bike honda crf150f) for $4,000 get it home etc...No manual, no tool kit, and I get the vin card and its an 04 bike! I've had the bike for a few months now, finally got my manual, and the tool kit a couple weeks later. What should I do about this or am I SOL? By the way the shop is now under new management...

Well it'll all depend on your budget really...

The older VFR's are GREAT sporty bikes with a comfortable ride. However the Katana is a GREAT starter bike, or just something semi-comfortable to put around town. How much are you looking to spend?

Well I was looking to spend around $1500.00. I had actually found and early 90's 600 katana in that price range. Now that I have to put it off for a while(have to roof the house) that will have to be decided later. I am actually trying to figure out a bike that suits me and then save to buy one. I can wait a while if it means getting what I want in a bike. I am just concerned after doing some reading the 600 katana will become boring quick and I don't want to buy another bike for a long time after my next purchase.
