Dale Earnhardt , Jr. has announced he will be leaving DEI at the end of this season. Among the top contenders to sign him is Richard Childress Racing but this has presented a bit of a paradox for Jr. He doesn't see himself as a good fit for the resurrection of the fabled # 3 car. He has stated part of his leaving DEI was to step out of the shadows of his family and his father.
Joe Gibbs Racing has reported they think Jr. "wouldn't be a good fit for them." Why, you ask? It is speculated sponsor Budweiser will follow Jr. in his new ride , whatever it may be. Gibbs wants to keep family oriented sponsors so an alcohol based sponsor doesn't fit that image.
Jr. has also stated he wants to stay with a Chevrolet based team . Rick Hendricks Racing has been completey silent on the subject but Jr. has said his focus is to be on a championship winning team so one would wise not to rule them out completely.Other teams expressing interest are Penske , Evernham and a new team , Ginn Racing. Shold be an interesting outcome , stay tuned.......
