About two months ago I picked up my 77 GS 750 and have been tinkering with it ever since. I have cleaned up more wiring mess than I care to think about cleaned the carbs and done some other little stuf and finally it seems to be running good. I still need new tires and a couple of other little things but it is nearly road worthy and I have gotten to take a couple of short rides on it.

Are you looking towards a cruiser or a standard for you next bike?

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Types_of_motorcycle

...this is the basic form of the motorcycle stripped down to its fundamental parts, with the front wheel visible from the rider's position. The emphasis is on functionality, performance and ergonomics rather than flashy body panels and exaggerated riding positions that are most common on sport bikes. This style of motorcycle became the "norm" in the 1970s and early 1980s (with the advent of the Universal Japanese motorycle), but fell out of favor as motorcycles evolved and niches developed for sport, touring, and cruising.

...The BMW's K1200R, R1200R, and F650CS, and the Ducati Monster, Yamaha FZ1, Honda 919, Honda Hornet (599), and Suzuki GSF600 Bandit are popular examples of naked motorcycles. Large engine displacement versions of naked motorcycles, especially those built in Japan, are often referred to as "muscle" bikes.

Good question. I haven't decided yet. Something comfortable, with decent power, low initial cost, low maintenance, and reliable.

(basically a high performance Cadillac at a Kia cost without too many high-tech things on it to go wrong...)

If the battery would charge on the Yamaha I'd probably keep it for a while longer. It will charge and hold a charge, it just won't recharge. After riding it a while, the turn signals slow down and the lights get dim. Probably ought to throw a regulator and alternator on it and keep it another year or two. :)

yea, I am familiar with Naked bikes. Pretty much a crotch rocket without farrings. I have seen plenty of them. I did not know they were called "standard" bikes though. New one on me.

That's kind of new for me too. (but anybody can put anything in wikipedia...)

I had always heard them described just as the older metric bike styling where you sat more upright. Not reclining like a cruiser, and not leaning forward like a crotch rocket.

yea, those stripped down crotch rockets don't do much for me. I like all the flashy plastic hiding the power.

How can you not like this? :(
